Pay rate is $30/hour for graduate students (expected graduation date of December 2027 or later required)

Based in Washington, DC, with an expectation to work onsite at least two days per week.

Full-time; 37.5 hours per week

ABA’s Internship provides students with a paid opportunity to work with one of the biggest trade associations in Washington, DC. This extremely selective opportunity provides students with the opportunity to do substantial work in various divisions across ABA, connect with leadership, build a network, and make a difference.

The Human Resources & Learning Development Intern will support a variety of strategic HR initiatives designed to enhance employee experience, workforce development, and organizational effectiveness. This role offers hands-on experience across multiple HR disciplines, including learning and development, benefits research, employee engagement, and program administration. The intern will collaborate with HR leaders and business partners on research, communications, data analysis, and special projects that support organizational priorities.

The ideal candidate is curious, proactive, and eager to gain broad exposure to human resources while developing leadership, project management, and analytical skills.

Primary Responsibilities

HR Research & Strategic Projects

  • Conduct research on employee benefits programs, workforce practices, and administrative models used by organizations across industries.

  • Analyze and summarize findings related to program structures, processes, and service delivery approaches.

  • Prepare reports, presentations, and recommendations to support HR decision-making.

  • Assist with data gathering, benchmarking, and environmental scans on emerging HR trends and best practices.

Learning & Development Support

  • Assist with the coordination, administration, and evaluation of organization-wide learning and development programs.

  • Support leadership development, professional development, and employee training initiatives.

  • Help create learning materials, communications, job aids, and participant resources.

  • Monitor program participation, collect feedback, and support reporting on learning outcomes.

AI Workforce Enablement Support

  • Assist with employee learning and adoption initiatives related to emerging workplace technologies and AI-enabled tools.

  • Support training logistics, communications, resource development, and participant engagement activities.

  • Conduct research on workplace learning trends and emerging technologies to support employee capability building.

Internship Program & Employee Engagement Support

  • Serve as a resource and ambassador for the intern community, helping foster connections and engagement throughout the internship experience.

  • Help gather feedback and identify opportunities to enhance the intern experience.

  • Demonstrate leadership by facilitating collaboration, sharing information, and helping connect interns with resources and opportunities.

General Human Resources Support

  • Assist with special projects and cross-functional HR initiatives.

  • Support communications, presentations, and materials development.

  • Participate in team meetings and contribute ideas for improving HR programs and processes.

  • Perform administrative and project coordination activities as needed.

Required Skills

  • Strong research, analytical, and problem-solving skills.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft 365 applications.

  • Interest in learning and development, employee experience, organizational effectiveness, and emerging workplace technologies.

  • Demonstrated initiative, professionalism, and ability to work independently.

Minimum Education Requirements

  • Graduate Student (expected graduation date of December 2027 or later required)

Preferred Field of Study

  • Human Resources, Organizational Development, Industrial and Organizational Psychology, Education, or Instructional Design preferred

Salary Band Range:

$15.00 - $37.50 - $60.00
