Advertising/Posting Title Digital Experience and Content Strategist

Posting Summary

The Digital Experience and Content Strategist leads in the creation, planning, implementation, and optimization of digital content experiences across the UVM website building brand affinity and engaging audiences ensuring that they can find information easily and take action. This position writes content focused on marketing and brand promotion while also being responsible for designing how content is structured, presented, managed, and experienced across the university’s web ecosystem.

As a key contributor to strategic web initiatives and important brand-level and enrollment-relevant pages, including academic program pages, this role partners with academic and administrative stakeholders to create scalable content systems that advance enrollment, engagement, and institutional goals. The position applies user research, SEO / AIO , accessibility standards, brand guidelines, analytics, and emerging digital trends to improve content performance and ensure the university’s digital presence remains effective, cohesive, and relevant while generating measurable results that contribute to enrollments and support other institutional goals.

The Digital Experience and Content Strategist also serves as a campus partner, expert, and hands-on specialist on content design and structure, digital governance standards, and user journeys, helping web strategists across campus align content, imagery, and web components to create meaningful user experiences that not only strengthen UVM’s brand but also support audience needs.

Minimum Qualifications (or equivalent combination of education and experience)

  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism, English, marketing, digital media, information science, or a related field — or equivalent combination of education and experience

  • 3–5 years of professional experience in content strategy, content management, digital communications, or UX writing, ideally in a complex organization with multiple stakeholders

  • Demonstrated experience managing content within a content management system ( CMS ) at scale

  • Working knowledge of web accessibility standards ( WCAG 2.1/2.2, ADA /Section 508 compliance)

  • Strong editorial skills — writing, editing, and applying style/brand guidelines consistently across content types

  • Experience specifically in higher education or in performance marketing with responsibility for optimizing web content for lead conversion

  • Experience working with designers with an awareness and appreciation for design principles

  • Experience with SEO / AIO fundamentals and using web analytics tools to inform content decisions

  • Demonstrated ability to consult with, train, or coach non-expert content contributors

  • Excellent cross-functional collaboration skills — this role touches designers, developers, subject matter experts, and content owners constantly, so this isn’t optional

Desirable Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in a relevant field

  • Experience with content governance frameworks — content models, editorial workflows, lifecycle/retirement policies — not just execution

  • Familiarity with AI discoverability / generative search optimization practices

  • Experience with information architecture and content strategy for large, multi-owner websites (thousands of pages, many contributors)

  • Familiarity with enterprise CMS platforms

  • Experience building or maintaining documentation, style guides, or governance playbooks used by non-specialist staff

  • Project management experience or certification

  • Experience with alumni/graduate outcomes content or recruitment-focused digital experiences specifically

Anticipated Pay Range $60,000 to $80,000

Special Conditions A probationary period may be required, This position is eligible for a hybrid schedule with an option to split time between campus and elsewhere, in accordance with the university telecommuting policy, Background Check required for this position
