Full job description

About M7 Health M7 Health is the AI-powered workforce operations platform for healthcare, designed for the realities of clinical staffing and scheduling. We use AI to help organizations forecast demand, auto-balance schedules, and deploy the right person to fill every shift before resorting to premium labor spend. The result: health systems reduce overtime, cut contract labor costs, and give clinical leaders time back to focus on care. Built with the earned wisdom of nurses, M7 serves tens of thousands of healthcare professionals daily and activated over 100 net new hospitals across 29 states, last year alone. In September 2026, M7 was acquired by Ascend Learning and joined its Healthcare Workforce Solutions practice alongside Laudio and StaffGarden. Ascend already works with 60% of U.S. nursing schools. Together, we're connecting the entire clinical career, from the classroom to the first shift and every shift after, with the reach and resources to take on healthcare's biggest workforce problems at national scale.

About The Role We’re looking for a Tech Lead to lead our Platform team, the group that owns the product experience nurses and clinical leaders touch every day. M7’s Platform team builds the scheduling workflows at the center of M7: how a schedule gets built and published, how open shifts get surfaced and filled, how positions and staffing structures are modeled, and how a health system runs staffing across dozens of hospitals instead of one unit at a time. When a nurse manager opens M7 on a Monday morning, your team built what they see. This is a hands-on role, roughly 70% engineering and 30% leadership. You'll spend most of your time writing and reviewing production code, designing systems, and debugging the hard problems alongside your team. The rest goes to setting technical direction, raising the quality bar, and unblocking the people around you. You’ll report to the Head of Engineering and run the day-to-day of the Platform squad, owning technical direction, code review, and delivery. Today that’s technical leadership. As the team grows, we expect this role to take on direct reports.

Responsibilities Lead the Platform squad

  • Run the day-to-day of the team: setting technical direction, owning delivery, and growing the engineers on it

  • Stay in the codebase. Write and review production code, design systems, and take on the problems nobody else wants

  • Strengthen the engineering practices and quality bar for a product where a scheduling bug shows up as a short-staffed unit

  • Grow into formal people management as the squad scales, including career development and performance for the engineers on your team.

Build the core product experience

  • Ship high-visibility features that run hospital operations nationwide, from scheduling and shift management to open shift filling and system-wide staffing

  • Evolve the backend and data model as M7 moves from unit-level scheduling to health-system scale, and into new clinical settings

Partner across the company

  • Work with product managers and healthcare operations experts to turn messy clinical realities into software a nurse manager can use

  • Bring customer problems back into technical direction rather than waiting for requirements to arrive fully formed

  • Build AI into how your team works, both in the product and in how the team ships

What Success Looks Like (First 6 Months)

  • You're shipping early, delivering features and fixes in the first weeks and learning the domain by sitting with real customer problems.

  • The team's delivery is predictable. You know what's in flight, what's at risk, and what you're saying no to.

  • You've raised the engineering bar on your squad through code review, design feedback, and the standards you hold yourself to.

  • You're setting technical direction for what Platform builds next, and product and engineering leadership trust that call.

About You

  • Experienced, hands-on engineer: You have 6+ years building and operating production software, with a track record of owning systems end-to-end. You still love writing code and want a role where that stays central.

  • A multiplier as a leader: You've led or mentored engineers, whether as a tech lead, team lead, or the senior engineer others gravitate to. You raise the bar through example, code review, and clear technical direction, and you grow the people around you.

  • Full-stack proficiency: You're comfortable across the stack and ideally experienced with React, TypeScript, and Vite on the front end; Node.js, NestJS, and TypeORM on the back end; PostgreSQL; and AWS or similar cloud infrastructure.

  • Product intuition: You think like a user and make tradeoffs that favor usability and real-world impact. You can tell the difference between a feature request and the problem behind it.

  • Builder's mindset: You turn ideas into software and iterate fast on feedback, and you balance your own output against unblocking your team.

  • Strong communicator: You explain complex ideas clearly and work well with people who don't write code, including the clinical operators who know this domain well

  • Startup energy: You handle ambiguity, focus on what moves the needle, and contribute past your job description.

  • AI-Native: You're fluent with AI coding assistants in your daily workflow, and interested in building AI-assisted tooling into how the team operates.

  • Attitude and Culture: You are aligned with M7's values: you act with urgency, bring relentless curiosity, lead with kindness, and hold yourself to a high standard of craft. You're passionate about the mission of making health systems stronger and show it every day.

Nice to Haves

  • Background at a healthcare SaaS company, or any experience with the operational complexity of large hospital networks.

  • Experience modeling complex scheduling, workforce, or resource allocation domains.

  • Experience building products where AI or ML features sit on top of core application data.

  • Venture-backed startup experience and comfort operating in a fast-growing environment.

Location We believe a regular cadence of in-person collaboration accelerates learning, reinforces team culture, and drives efficiency. In this spirit, we work in a hybrid structure, working two days per week in our Manhattan office.
