We are driven by a mission to connect the world for good and our people make it possible. Every single day, the creativity, dedication and genuine care for our communities are what push us forward and make this a truly special place to be.

Who You Are: (Job Summary)

The Regulatory Compliance Specialist supports QTS regulatory intelligence and development of the electric reliability compliance program. The role monitors activity from NERC, FERC, Regional Entities, RTOs/ISOs, utilities, state utility commissions and industry groups; attends assigned meetings; tracks proposed obligations and deadlines; and prepares accurate summaries for internal review. Working under established direction, the position also supports SME training, Internal Controls database inputs, draft RSAWs and NERC Compliance Procedures, evidence organization, and implementation readiness for company-owned electrical infrastructure.

What You Will Do: (Job Responsibilities)

  • Support monitoring of regulatory, reliability, standards-development, tariff, protocol, and utility activities that may affect QTS data centers, large computational loads, interconnections, or company-owned electrical infrastructure.

  • Attend assigned external meetings, workshops, committees, webinars, and stakeholder proceedings; prepare meeting briefs and capture decisions, positions, deadlines, milestones, and follow-up actions.

  • Maintain regulatory calendars, standards-development trackers, external-engagement records, and proposed obligations at the requirement or sub-requirement level.

  • Support preliminary applicability and impact reviews by researching background materials, documenting open questions, and coordinating input from Legal and technical subject-matter experts.

  • Prepare concise regulatory updates, issue summaries, comment matrices, action trackers, and leadership materials using established templates.

  • Assist with development and maintenance of RSAWs, NERC Compliance Procedures, evidence matrices, compliance narratives, process maps, controls, and implementation materials for review and approval.

  • Assist with role-based training, workshops, job aids, and working sessions for SMEs, control owners, evidence providers, and affected personnel.

  • Enter and maintain obligations, controls, owners, frequencies, due dates, evidence requirements, dependencies, and testing attributes in the Internal Controls database or GRC platform.

  • Support evidence collection and quality review, readiness assessments, self-assessments, mock audits, corrective actions, and remediation tracking.

  • Maintain organized, controlled, and auditable regulatory and compliance records; elevate overdue, incomplete, or potentially ineffective activities to senior compliance personnel.

What You Will Need to Be Successful: (Required Qualifications, Education, Experience, Certifications)

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, power systems, energy, public policy, regulatory affairs, business, law, communications, information systems, risk, compliance, or a related field, or equivalent directly relevant experience.

  • Minimum two years of relevant experience in the electric utility industry, regulatory compliance, energy policy, grid operations, transmission, generation, data center infrastructure, government affairs, legal or regulatory support, or another closely related field.

  • Experience researching, summarizing, or tracking complex regulatory, technical, legal, or policy information and preparing professional notes, reports, procedures, training materials, or action trackers.

  • Strong organization, attention to detail, written communication, and ability to manage multiple assignments and deadlines with guidance.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, SharePoint, and similar collaboration or information-management tools.

  • Ability to travel up to 25%, or as needed, for regulatory meetings, stakeholder forums, utility engagements, conferences, and QTS site activities.

Nice to Have: (Preferred Qualifications, Education, Experience, Certifications)

  • Experience or exposure related to NERC, FERC, a Regional Entity, RTO/ISO, reliability coordinator, transmission provider, electric utility, state utility commission, registered entity, trade association, or energy-regulatory organization.

  • Familiarity with NERC Reliability Standards, standards development, FERC rulemaking, Regional Entity activities, or RTO/ISO stakeholder processes.

  • Exposure to GRC platforms, Internal Controls databases, RSAWs, NERC Compliance Procedures, evidence matrices, audit packages, or compliance training.

  • Knowledge of large-load interconnection, power-system modeling, protection and control, disturbance monitoring, operational communications, system operations, or data center electrical infrastructure.

Other Key Skills: (KSAs)

  • Ability to learn and apply electric-industry terminology, regulatory processes, compliance-program fundamentals, internal controls concepts, and audit-readiness practices.

  • Ability to prepare accurate summaries, controlled documents, trackers, and draft compliance materials using established templates and guidance.

  • Ability to recognize potentially significant external activity, document questions objectively, and escalate matters requiring Legal, technical, or management review.

  • Ability to communicate effectively with regulators, utilities, attorneys, engineers, operators, consultants, executives, and business partners.

  • Ability to handle confidential and time-sensitive information, organize competing assignments, and deliver accurate work in a rapidly evolving environment.
