Summary

This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service. About the Position: This position is with the U.S. Army Engineer Research and Development Center (ERDC), Security Office. This position is being filled as a Security Specialist DJ-02 (GS 5-10)

Duties

  • Support the Security Manager who is responsible for implementing a comprehensive protection program.
  • Conduct all security related training, administration, and inspections for the Engineer Research and Development Center (ERDC).
  • Monitor the manner in which sensitive material is handled and used; recommend appropriate corrective action where security requirements are not being observed.
  • Coordinate with scientific, technical, and other subject-matter specialists to assess risk of loss, value of loss, and the classification level appropriate to information sensitivity.
  • Utilizes and complies with OSHA safety and Personal Protective Equipment requirements.
  • Implement policies, instructions, procedures, control systems, and methods for personnel access controls and physical storage and control.
  • Perform daily security discipline activities including security briefings, indoctrinations, debriefings, and training/refresher training and Security, Education and Training Awareness.

Qualifications

Who May Apply: US Citizens In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Additional information about transcripts is in this document. General Experience: Three years progressively responsible experience, 1 year of which was equivalent to at least the DJ-01 (GS-04) grade level, which includes (1) the ability to plan and organize work; (2) communicate effectively orally and in writing; and/or (3) experience in protecting sensitive unclassified/classified information using traditional security practices. This definition of general experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service DJ-01(GS-04). OR Education: Four year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree. OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 36. Then divide your total number of completed undergraduate semester hours (or equivalent) by 120. Add the two percentages. All qualification requirements, including time after competitive appointment, must be met within 30 days of the closing date of this announcement. This announcement MAY be used to fill like vacancies for six months after the closing date. In accordance with the Federal Register Vol. 63, No. 57, dates March 25, 1998, an employee of the Laboratory Demonstration project must have a current average performance score of 2.5 or above in order to be selected for promotion. All applicants currently employed under a Laboratory Demonstration Project must include their most recent performance appraisal score as part of their electronic resume. Male applicants born after December 31, 1959, must complete a Pre-Employment Certification Statement for Selective Service Registration. You will be required to provide proof of U.S. Citizenship. This position requires a 1 year probationary period during which the agency evaluates your fitness and whether your continued employment advances the public interest. Continued employment requires written certification that it advances the public interest. Direct Deposit of Pay is required. Selection is subject to restrictions resulting from Department of Defense referral system for displaced employees. This is a(n) 19 Career Program position aligned under the Career Management Directorate. Salary includes applicable locality pay or Local Market Supplement. This position is Non-Exempt from the Fair Labor Standards Act. Eligible for situation telework only, including emergency and OPM prescribed "Unscheduled Telework."
