Summary Objective

The Engineering Project Controller is responsible for developing, maintaining, and analyzing engineering project schedules, resource plans, and performance data across multiple concurrent modular fabrication projects. This position serves as a critical link between Engineering, Project Management, Procurement, Manufacturing, and Operations by transforming project requirements and engineering data into actionable schedules, forecasts, dashboards, and resource plans. Major responsibilities include improving visibility into engineering progress, resource capacity, schedule risk, and upcoming workload to support predictable project execution and on-time delivery.

Essential Functions

  • Develops and maintains integrated engineering schedules for multiple concurrent projects from initial design through Issued for Construction (IFC) and fabrication support.

  • Establishes and tracks engineering milestones including design development, client reviews, 30/60/90 design reviews, IFC releases, procurement deliverables, and fabrication support activities.

  • Coordinates with Design Project Managers, Engineering Managers, and discipline leads to establish realistic activity durations, dependencies, resource requirements, and deliverable dates.

  • Maintains alignment between engineering schedules and overall project, procurement, and manufacturing schedules.

  • Identifies critical-path activities, schedule conflicts, late deliverables, and emerging risks; performs schedule variance and trend analysis and supports development of recovery plans.

  • Develops short-term look-ahead schedules and reports to communicate upcoming engineering priorities, deliverables, and constraints.

  • Develops and maintains engineering resource forecasts by project, discipline, position, and week.

  • Compares forecasted workload against available engineering capacity to identify staffing shortages, surpluses, resource conflicts, and opportunities for workload leveling.

  • Supports resource allocation across multiple simultaneous projects and provides forward-looking staffing and capacity forecasts to engineering leadership.

  • Develops dashboards and reports that provide visibility into engineering schedule performance, workload, capacity, project health, and key performance indicators (KPIs).

  • Tracks and analyzes milestone performance, schedule variance, engineering manhours, resource utilization, forecast accuracy, and deliverable status.

  • Analyzes historical project data, including planned versus actual engineering performance, to improve future schedules, estimates, and resource plans.

  • Consolidates information from engineering, project management, ERP, scheduling, and other business systems into reliable reporting datasets.

  • Develops automated or semi-automated reporting processes to reduce manual data collection and improve reporting consistency and data quality.

  • Establishes and maintains standardized engineering scheduling, forecasting, resource planning, and reporting methodologies across projects and product lines.

  • Works with engineering leadership to establish standard durations and labor-hour expectations for recurring engineering activities and modular product designs.

  • Collaborates with Engineering, Project Management, Procurement, Manufacturing, and Operations to evaluate downstream impacts of engineering changes or delays.

  • Facilitates regular schedule and resource reviews with engineering leadership and communicates risks, constraints, and required actions to appropriate stakeholders.

  • Tracks engineering deliverables and BOM release timing to support alignment with procurement and fabrication requirements.

  • Participates in continuous improvement initiatives, ISO 9001 activities, and other audits as required.

Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
