Full job description

General Description:

BeOne Medicines is seeking a highly capable, hands-on leader to drive strategic initiatives and transformation across its global Research & Development organization.

Reporting to the VP of R&D Strategy & Operations, this individual will translate R&D strategic priorities into tangible outcomes, lead complex cross-functional initiatives, establish effective program management structures, and strengthen organizational execution.

The ideal candidate combines strategic problem-solving with exceptional operational discipline, strong business judgment, and the ability to influence stakeholders across a global, matrixed organization. This is a highly visible role with the opportunity to shape how BeOne executes its R&D strategy and accelerates the development of innovative medicines.

Essential Functions of the Job:

Strategic Initiative Execution & Transformation

  • Lead high-priority R&D transformation initiatives from strategy through implementation, ensuring measurable outcomes.

  • Establish and lead strategic program management offices (PMOs), including workstream design, milestones, governance, risk management, and performance tracking.

  • Drive cross-functional alignment and accountability across Research, Development, and enabling functions; proactively resolve issues and escalate critical decisions.

  • Identify opportunities to improve R&D operating models, processes, organizational effectiveness, and productivity; design and implement sustainable solutions.

Governance & Operational Excellence

  • Support the design and continuous improvement of R&D governance, strategic planning, goal-setting, and performance management processes.

  • Establish practical management systems and operating cadences that strengthen decision-making, transparency, and follow-through.

  • Partner with functional leaders to translate R&D-wide priorities into actionable plans, clear ownership, and measurable outcomes.

Executive Engagement & Strategic Support

  • Partner with R&D leadership to address complex strategic and operational challenges.

  • Develop compelling executive communications, decision materials, and progress updates that translate complex information into actionable insights.

  • Support leadership forums, strategic reviews, and high-priority activities of the R&D head office.

  • Contribute to strategic problem-solving and new initiatives as organizational priorities evolve.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Experience in biopharma, life sciences consulting, corporate strategy, transformation, R&D operations, or related fields; consulting and industry experience are equally valued.

  • Strong understanding of the pharmaceutical/biotechnology industry and R&D value chain; direct drug development or oncology experience is a plus.

  • Demonstrated success independently leading complex cross-functional initiatives, transformations, PMOs, or organizational change programs through implementation.

  • Exceptional ability to translate ambiguous objectives into structured workplans and drive execution through stakeholders without direct authority.

  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, organizational, and project management skills, with excellent attention to detail and follow-through.

  • Excellent executive communication and story-lining capabilities, including the ability to independently develop senior leadership materials.

  • High emotional intelligence, sound judgment, and the ability to navigate complex global and matrixed organizations.

  • Entrepreneurial, proactive, hands-on, and adaptable; comfortable operating in a fast-paced environment with evolving priorities.

  • Bachelor's degree required; advanced degree preferred.

What Success Looks Like

  • Critical R&D initiatives advance with clear ownership, disciplined execution, and measurable results.

  • R&D leadership has greater visibility into priorities, progress, risks, and decisions.

  • Cross-functional teams are better aligned, and strategic decisions translate into sustained organizational change.
