Full job description

Description We are looking for an experienced Accounting Manager to support a printing and publishing organization in Boston, Massachusetts on a Long-term Contract basis. This opportunity is ideal for a hands-on accounting leader who can guide daily operations, provide dependable oversight to the general ledger team, and help maintain accurate and timely financial reporting. The position requires someone who can work independently, manage priorities with minimal direction, and contribute meaningfully to audit and close activities.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead day-to-day general ledger activities and oversee the accuracy and completeness of core accounting records.

  • Supervise and support two accounting team members, providing direction, review, and workflow management.

  • Manage the month-end close process to ensure deadlines are met and financial results are reported accurately.

  • Prepare and review journal entries, reconciliations, and other supporting schedules tied to key balance sheet and income statement accounts.

  • Take ownership of corporate card, purchasing, and travel and expense accounting to maintain proper controls and expense tracking.

  • Contribute to payroll-related accounting processes as needed, including review of entries and related account activity.

  • Play a central role in audit preparation by organizing documentation, responding to requests, and coordinating with external auditors.

  • Identify accounting issues proactively and resolve routine operational matters with sound judgment and limited oversight.

  • Support accounting operations within Microsoft Dynamics GP and help maintain efficient financial processes.

  • Step into a leadership capacity that reduces day-to-day management burden while keeping accounting activities moving smoothly. Requirements • Prior experience serving in an Accounting Manager, Senior Accounting Manager, or similarly senior accounting leadership role.

  • Strong working knowledge of month-end close, general ledger management, and account reconciliation practices.

  • Demonstrated ability to prepare and review journal entries with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail.

  • Experience supporting financial statement audits and partnering effectively with external auditors.

  • Proven people management experience, including direct supervision of accounting staff.

  • Ability to operate independently in a hands-on environment and manage multiple priorities effectively.

  • Experience with corporate purchasing, expense reporting, or related spend management processes is preferred.

  • Microsoft Dynamics GP experience is strongly preferred.
