SUMMARY

The Learning Innovation and Technology Specialist provides leadership, innovation, and operational oversight for the institution’s digital learning environment. The Specialist ensures that digital education at Southwest Tech is high quality, innovative, accessible, and aligned with institutional goals for student success. This role oversees digital learning administration, faculty digital tool-related development, instructional technology, and compliance with digital learning standards. A central priority of this year-round role is improving student completion and retention by ensuring that digital course materials support regular and substantive interaction and promote strong engagement.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE

Strategic Leadership & Administration

•Lead the Learning Management System (LMS)-related learning functions to ensure alignment with institutional academic and strategic priorities. Implement and administer learning management systems.

•Lead strategic planning for technology adoption, and digital learning initiatives.

•Supervise digital course materials operations and ensure efficient workflows that support instructional needs.

•Collaborate with the business office to ensure accurate billing and financial processing for digital content vendors.

•Develop and implement strategies to improve student retention, completion, and success.

Faculty Development & Online Instruction Standards

•Establish, implement, and maintain standards for LMS-mediated instruction in alignment with accreditation requirements and national best practices.

•Lead faculty development programming, including training, workshops, and mentoring related to effective LMS-mediated teaching.

•Provide leadership and oversight for LMS-mediated quality initiatives, including alignment with nationally recognized standards and continuous improvement efforts.

•Oversee the implementation and ongoing improvement of Worldwide Instructional Design System (WIDS) syllabi use to ensure compliance with institutional requirements.

•Promote and support best practices for regular and substantive interaction to strengthen student engagement and learning.

•Lead the Southwest Tech common template and master course shell processes, ensuring consistent branding, clear navigation, and a student-centered course experience.

Technology & Quality Assurance

  • Provide oversight and governance of the learning management system to ensure reliability, effective use, user support, and training.

  • Lead digital accessibility and quality assurance efforts to ensure all LMS course content meets accessibility requirements, aligns with institutional assessment practices, and supports student success.

  • Oversee the implementation and continuous improvement of the LMS review process to promote high-quality course design.

  • Analyze system and course-level data to identify opportunities to improve student engagement, retention, and instructional effectiveness.

  • Evaluate and guide the adoption of LMS-related emerging technologies, including AI, to enhance teaching, learning, and operational efficiency.

  • Establish and maintain governance standards for the effective and consistent use of digital learning technologies across the institution.

Collaboration, Compliance & Financial Oversight

  • Collaborate with academic leadership, faculty, IT, and student services to strengthen and align the LMS-related learning experience.

  • Lead LMS-related compliance efforts related to regular and substantive interaction and digital accessibility standards regarding federal, state, and accreditation standards.

  • Advocate for and contribute to the development of policies, resources, and systems that support student success in LMS-related learning.

  • Manage vendor relationships and support accurate financial processing for digital content providers.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in Instructional Design, Educational Technology, Information Technology, or a related field.

  • Minimum of five years of experience in higher education with emphasis in faculty development, academic leadership, or adjunct faculty support; and designing and implementing instructional strategies that promote

student access, program completion, and post-graduate success.

  • Proficiency in learning management systems instructional technology tools, and digital education administration.

  • Strong technical skills, including troubleshooting educational software/hardware issues and supporting faculty with Learning Management and Student Information System needs.

  • Knowledge of accessibility standards (WCAG, ADA, Section 508) and universal design for learning (UDL).

  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, student-centered environment.

  • Demonstrated ability to lead faculty development and support implementation of LMS-related teaching standards.

  • Experience managing digital content workflows and academic financial processes.

  • Excellent in oral and written communication, project management, and strategic planning skills.

  • Strong analytical and organizational skills and sound decision-making ability.

  • Ability to maintain effective and positive working relationships with faculty, staff, students, and community members.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite including Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, and Copilot.

  • High attention to detail, professionalism, and ability to handle confidential information.

  • Ability to manage multiple projects, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines.

  • Demonstrated flexibility, budget experience, and effectiveness in team settings.

PREFFERED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Familiarity with AI in education, adaptive learning technologies, and automation tools that reduce barriers to learning.

  • Experience with coding or scripting for instructional automation (e.g., Python, JavaScript, APIs).

  • Basic knowledge of networking, system administration, or cybersecurity principles

  • Strong knowledge of LMS systems and digital content integrations with bookstore vendors.
