Full job description
SEI is looking for an experienced Project Lead to play a key role in bringing climate and clean energy education to schools across New York. In this role, you’ll lead SEI’s work on the ground in the New York area, build relationships with educators and partners, and help teachers bring this important work into their classrooms.
The New York Board of Regents recently passed a mandate requiring climate education in all K-12 public schools by 2029, creating an exciting opportunity to help shape how this work comes to life in schools. Ultimately, your work will help equip students with the knowledge and skills to understand energy and climate issues in their communities and explore green career pathways, while supporting the educators who make that learning possible.
This position is remote, with the requirement to travel to training sites throughout the New York City and Long Island areas approximately three times per month. Additional in-person work may be required in other parts of the state.
About SEI
SEI is a teams-based, non-profit organization dedicated to building leaders who accelerate climate solutions. Through our Education and Workforce programs, we partner with schools, communities, and businesses to develop inclusive and just sustainability leadership pathways from elementary school to early career. Our team is collaborative, creative, and united by a shared purpose.
The Impact You’ll Make
-
Provide key leadership within a large New York-based education initiative within the Energize Schools department.
-
Serve as the lead facilitator to provide in-person (in the New York area) and virtual training to educators on climate change, renewable energy, energy efficiency, the energy grid, energy economics and policy, and clean energy careers.
-
Serve as a supporting facilitator for clean energy trainings led by partners in other locations around the state.
-
Manage logistics for clean energy trainings, including overseeing the training schedule, securing venues, arranging food, recruiting and coordinating guest speakers, and purchasing, transporting, and tracking materials and supplies.
-
Grow and maintain external relationships and partnerships with educational entities and partner organizations around New York State.
-
Provide post-training instructional support to training participants.
-
Develop and maintain training content, curriculum, and external-facing resources. Provide direction on training content, priorities, and processes.
-
Develop and administer program processes including but not limited to participant enrollment, attendance tracking, training evaluation, and data tracking.
-
Remotely support other Energize Schools projects that may have a different geographic focus (such as in California) or sustainability topic focus (such as air quality).
What You Bring
We encourage anyone interested in this position to apply, even if they do not meet all of the qualifications. We recognize that a unique perspective and background can enhance a role when many, if not all, of the listed qualifications are met.
-
A minimum of 2 years of experience leading substantial projects or workstreams, including developing and executing work plans, anticipating project needs and challenges, tracking deliverables and milestones, coordinating tasks, and collaborating with partners and stakeholders.
-
Experience working in school systems and/or with educators.
-
Knowledge of clean energy topics, including climate change, renewable energy, energy efficiency, the energy grid, energy economics and policy, and clean energy careers.
-
Experience in energy, environmental science, sustainability, education, or nonprofit administration.
-
Skilled in virtual and in-person facilitation, public speaking, and professional training delivery, with experience leading group discussions, workshops, or training sessions.
-
Knowledge of instructional design and training methodologies.
-
Ability to build and maintain positive partnerships in the community.
-
Valid driver’s license and ability to transport materials and supplies to training and other field sites as needed.
-
Ability and willingness to travel regularly to training locations and other field sites, approximately three times per month.
-
Experience with outreach or recruitment of program participants or partners.
-
Ability to work effectively across different settings, including remotely and at in-person training and field sites, and collaborate with geographically dispersed team members.
-
Ability to manage competing priorities and adapt to evolving program needs.
-
Communicates clearly, effectively, and concisely in all formats.
-
Comfortable learning and using the digital tools SEI uses, with little to no assistance, including but not limited to Microsoft Office products, Google Workspace tools, Asana project management software, Salesforce, and a variety of proprietary software, and willing to try out new technologies and work tools.
-
Commitment to cultivating a diverse, equitable, and inclusive work environment.
-
Personal qualities of integrity, credibility, and a commitment to SEI’s mission and values.
Preferred Qualifications
-
A background teaching in the classroom, especially science.
-
Access to a reliable vehicle, given the need to transport materials and supplies to training sites.
What We Provide
-
Greater work-life balance and better personal well-being, including a flexible remote work arrangement, with regular in-person collaboration and training in the New York City and Long Island areas.
