Full job description

Midlands Technical College is a public, multi-campus, two-year college serving Richland, Lexington, and Fairfield counties in South Carolina. MTC offers a variety of associate degrees, diplomas, and certificates; creates innovative learning environments; promotes individual and business success; drives economic vitality; and enhances quality of life. Join our team! Adjunct faculty teach assigned courses within the Desktop and Server Administrator program, which may include CompTIA Tech+, A+, Network+, Security+, Server+, Cloud+, and CySA+. Instructors conduct lectures, lead discussions, facilitate hands-on labs, provide course materials, connect instruction to approved course objectives and current certification standards, and assess student work while providing timely feedback. They demonstrate the installation, configuration, maintenance, security, and troubleshooting of computer hardware, operating systems, networks, servers, virtual environments, and cloud services. Instructors also guide students in identifying security threats, responding to incidents, recovering from vulnerabilities, and applying industry-standard security practices.

Adjunct faculty prepare lessons, activities, assessments, and lab exercises; maintain accurate attendance, grade, and course records; communicate with program staff regarding student progress and instructional needs; maintain a safe, inclusive, and professional learning environment; and complete required onboarding and training. Faculty are expected to remain current with CompTIA objectives, emerging technologies, instructional methods, and industry practices through relevant professional development. This is a part-time adjunct faculty position with assignments based on enrollment and program needs. Courses may be offered during evening hours and may include classroom, lab, hybrid, or online instruction. This position is in the Corporate and Continuing Education department.

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in information technology, computer science, cybersecurity, networking, systems administration, or a closely related field. Relevant directly related experience may be accepted as a substitute for the bachelor’s degree on a year-for-year basis.

  • Current CompTIA certification aligned with the assigned subject area, or the ability to obtain the required certification upon hire. Relevant certifications may include Tech+, A+, Network+, Security+, Server+, Cloud+, or CySA+.

  • Professional experience supporting computer hardware, networks, Windows systems, servers, cybersecurity operations, virtualization, or cloud environments.

  • Ability to explain technical concepts clearly and provide effective hands-on demonstrations.

  • Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.

  • Ability to use instructional technology and maintain required course documentation.

  • Master’s degree in an information technology-related discipline.

  • Multiple current CompTIA certifications, particularly certifications aligned with several courses in the program.

  • Three or more years of relevant industry experience.

  • Previous teaching, training, mentoring, or curriculum-delivery experience with adult learners.

  • Experience preparing learners for CompTIA certification examinations.

  • Experience with Windows desktop and server environments, cloud platforms, virtualization, networking technologies, and cybersecurity tools. Final compensation may vary depending on academic credentials and course material taught. Variations in compensation may depend on the number of students registered in any given assigned course and complexity of material.
