Midlands Technical College is a public, multi-campus, two-year college serving Richland, Lexington, and Fairfield counties in South Carolina. MTC offers a variety of associate degrees, diplomas, and certificates; creates innovative learning environments; promotes individual and business success; drives economic vitality; and enhances quality of life. Join our team! The Part-Time Adjunct Professor of Data Science provides high-quality, applied instruction in database systems, data preparation, analytics, visualization, and related business technology topics. The instructor will teach existing courses and help modernize curriculum to emphasize clean, reliable data; responsible use of artificial intelligence; and practical skills aligned with current workforce needs. Deliver lectures, discussions, demonstrations, labs, and other activities using approved objectives, materials, software, and assessments. Prepare lessons, projects, and evaluations aligned with course outcomes and workplace applications.
Provide required materials, use clear examples, and give timely feedback on student work. Teach students to collect, clean, validate, transform, document, analyze, visualize, and communicate data. Integrate AI-assisted data preparation, querying, analysis, visualization, automation, prompting, validation, privacy, bias, ethics, and responsible use. Develop and update courses, curricula, syllabi, materials, and evaluations as assigned. Maintain the learning environment, hold required office hours, and promptly submit attendance, grades, reports, and records. Stay current in data science, databases, analytics, AI, and industry expectations through professional development and collaboration. Follow college policies on accessibility, academic integrity, information security, student privacy, and service. This position is located within Corporate and Continuing Education and may teach at the Northeast, Harbison, Beltline, or Northlake locations and delivery formats based on program needs. Courses may be scheduled during the day, evening, or weekend and delivered online, virtually, or in person. Assignments are not guaranteed; broader availability may increase teaching opportunities.• Bachelor’s degree in data science, computer science, information systems, management information systems, business analytics, statistics, or a closely related field. Relevant professional experience may be considered as a substitute for the bachelor’s degree on a year-for-year basis.

Demonstrated professional experience with relational databases, SQL, data cleaning and preparation, data analysis, business intelligence, or related data technologies.

Working knowledge of tools relevant to assigned courses, such as Microsoft Excel, Access, SQL Server, Power BI, Tableau, or comparable platforms.

Ability to explain technical concepts clearly and facilitate effective learning for students with varied educational and professional backgrounds.

Effective communication, organizational, interpersonal, and classroom management skills.

Master’s degree in data science, computer science, information systems, management information systems, business analytics, statistics, or a related field.

Three or more years of relevant professional experience in data management, database development, analytics, business intelligence, or data science.

College, continuing education, corporate training, or adult-learning teaching experience.

Experience designing or revising competency-based curricula, syllabi, instructional materials, and hands-on assessments.

Experience using generative AI or other AI-enabled tools for data cleaning, analysis, visualization, documentation, or workflow improvement.

Relevant industry certifications in Microsoft, Tableau, SQL, data analytics, cloud technologies, Agile, or artificial intelligence. Compensation may vary based on academic credentials and course content. Rates are determined at the time of hire and may differ by course depending on enrollment and content complexity.
