The Opportunity

The Risk & Compliance Advisor III provides independent second-line oversight, effective challenge, and risk guidance to support business products, services, and processes within an established risk and compliance framework. This role partners closely with business leaders and stakeholders to identify, assess, and manage risk exposures while helping ensure adherence to applicable policies, regulatory requirements, and enterprise risk standards. The advisor supports a strong risk culture by providing insights, monitoring emerging risks, and recommending practical solutions that balance business objectives with sound risk management practices.

The ideal candidate has at least one year of experience in risk management, cybersecurity, information security, or a related field and brings a foundational understanding of risk principles, frameworks, and controls. Success in this role requires strong technical aptitude, including the ability to analyze and interpret large data sets, collaborate effectively across teams, and communicate complex concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences. Experience in Cybersecurity or Information Technology risk management is preferred, along with proficiency in Microsoft Office applications such as Excel and PowerPoint. Progress toward or attainment of industry certifications such as CRISC, CISA, CISM, or CISSP is highly valued, as is the ability to leverage data-driven insights to influence decision-making and strengthen the organization's risk posture. Military experience, including experience gained as a military spouse or domestic partner, is also valued.

We offer a flexible work environment that requires an individual to be in the office 4 days per week. This position can be based in one of the following locations: Charlotte, NC, or Tampa, FL

What you'll do:

  • Supports the team in the identification, assessment, aggregation and documentation of operational and compliance risks and controls, including operational and compliance risks associated with new or modified products, services, distribution channels, regulations, and third-party operations.

  • Acquires and applies foundational knowledge of the business, its products, and processes to identify operational risk and compliance issues.

  • Understands the origin and reasoning behind key rules, laws, frameworks, policies, practices, and procedures and risk management principles and practices.

  • Acquires knowledge to assist in producing analytical material for discussions with cross functional teams to understand business objectives and influence solution strategies.

  • Applies foundational learning to help support the formulation of stress test plans for a line of business or the enterprise.

  • Assists in the process of enhancing strategies, tools, and methodologies to measure, monitor, and report on operational and compliance risks.

  • Supports cross-functional team initiatives to identify, assess, aggregate, and mitigate current and emerging risk.

  • Assists in the execution of processes to measure, monitor, and report on operational and compliance risks.

  • Under direct supervision, performs routine work assignments and problem resolution to support other team members.

What you have:

  • Bachelor's degree; OR 4 years of relevant education and/or experience.

Experiences that will support your success:

  • Minimum of one year of experience in risk management, cybersecurity, information security, or a related field.

  • Basic knowledge of risk and/or compliance management principles tools, or applicable systems.

  • Experience understanding and applying basic risk and compliance knowledge to work deliverables.

  • Experience working in a highly collaborative environment.

  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office products such as Excel and/or PowerPoint.

What sets you apart:

  • US military experience gained through military service or gained as a military spouse / domestic partner

  • Completion of, or progress toward, relevant industry certifications such as CRISC, CISA, CISM, or CISSP.

Compensation range: The salary range for this position is: $57,970 - $103,870 .

Compensation: USAA has an effective process for assessing market data and establishing ranges to ensure we remain competitive. You are paid within the salary range based on your experience and market data of the position. The actual salary for this role may vary by location.

Employees may be eligible for pay incentives based on overall corporate and individual performance and at the discretion of the USAA Board of Directors.
