Full job description

Description

Amazon's scientific community of thousands of researchers, spanning disciplines from artificial intelligence to quantum computing, is a cornerstone of the company's ability to invent on behalf of customers. Amazon Science is the external platform that brings that work to life for researchers, engineers, developers, media, and the broader technology community.

As Communications Manager for Amazon Science, you will own the strategy for this platform: developing the editorial vision, running the publishing operation, setting the quality standards, and shaping which of Amazon's scientific breakthroughs reach external audiences and how. The platform has an extraordinary foundation of researchers, an established publishing pipeline, and a growing audience. There is a significant opportunity to evolve and simplify it into a best-in-class owned storytelling asset.

This role requires someone with a genuine pulse on the scientific community, the editorial instincts and technical fluency to go deep with researchers, and the strategic ambition to take a complex platform and raise its bar.

Key job responsibilities

  • Own the platform vision and strategy. Define what Amazon Science should be: the stories it tells, the audiences it prioritizes, and how the platform compounds Amazon's reputation as a destination for world-class science and engineering talent. Build a clear plan that identifies the biggest opportunities to evolve the platform, and make the calls on formats, series, and multimedia storytelling to get there.

  • Run the publishing operation and own the quality bar. Own the publishing desk and set the standard for what goes out. Define and enforce the editorial standards, voice, and house style for Amazon Science. Drive the editorial calendar and publishing cadence. Own the judgment calls on feature content, white papers, and special projects, including framing, format, and placement. Simplify the processes that govern how content moves from research to publication.

  • Partner deeply with researchers. Work directly with scientists to understand their work, identify the ideas that matter most, and build the mechanisms that elevate how researchers engage with the platform. Serve as a trusted thought partner who earns the confidence of senior scientific leaders and surfaces the most important, differentiated stories.

  • Measure and raise the bar. Track what is working and what is not, and use those insights to make the platform better, not just to report on performance. Evaluate the research and story intake mechanisms and redesign them where they get in the way of surfacing the best work.

  • Partner on conference strategy. Define how Amazon Science shows up at academic conferences, by collaborating with other Amazon teams to assess whether our current presence delivers meaningful communications return on investment, and build a go-forward approach.

  • Cross-functional collaboration. Partner closely with communications leads across Amazon's businesses to ensure Amazon Science content seeds and supports communications campaigns, and help shape how the broader organization tells its research story.

About the team

This role is part of the communications team supporting Amazon's investments in foundational AI models, custom silicon, and quantum computing, within Amazon's Communications and Corporate Responsibility (CCR) organization.

Basic Qualifications

  • 7+ years of recent professional communications or public relations experience

  • Bachelor's degree

Preferred Qualifications

  • Demonstrated ability to translate complex technical topics into accessible stories across audiences, formats, and channels

  • Experience owning a content platform, publication, or editorial operation end to end, including setting and enforcing editorial standards

  • History of independently driving complex projects from strategy through execution

  • Understanding of or strong interest in frontier AI and the broader scientific research landscape

  • Connection to the scientific or research community, with experience working directly and credibly with scientists, engineers, or technical researchers
