Building Automation Technician

Position Overview: Responsible for monitoring the control systems of automated equipment utilizing software to verify that the controls are within certain parameters. When controls exceed or fall below specifications, they must quickly troubleshoot the problem to avoid or minimize interruptions to production. Job Duties:

• Perform periodic preventative maintenance to ensure issues are detected early and resolved before the equipment fails. Work with OEM to track open repairs and maintenance.
• Troubleshoot and repair field wiring and sensors. Modify controllers, sensors, and components, and troubleshoot communications issues.
• Perform root cause analysis of HVAC controls systems malfunctions while striving for continuous improvement and making recommendations.
• Startup and commissioning of new systems and functions
• Work closely with installation subcontractors and coordinate work with them to ensure projects are completed on time and per code, standards, and contract requirements
• Perform a point-to-point checkout per standard procedures
• Perform other duties as assigned.

• High school diploma, G.E.D. equivalency.

Experience:

• Two (2) years’ experience working with controls; knowledge of AHU’s, chiller plants, complex fan systems, and building controls head-ends.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities (KSAs)

• Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, building mechanical/electrical drawings and technical guides.
• Ability to effectively communicate progress, status, and issues to internal and external customers.
• Must have ability to stoop, stand, climb, frequently lift a minimum of 50 lbs. of equipment (pumps, tools, ladders), and safely install rigging/lifting devices
• Regularly required to crouch and reach to install/move equipment by bending forward at the waist or by bending legs and spine
• Involves movement between departments, floors, and properties to facilitate work
• Ability to speak clearly so others can understand you
• Ability to read and understand information presented orally and in writing
• Regularly required to utilize vision abilities, allowing reading of printed material, drawings, and schematics
• Ability to travel up to 25%

Emergency Deployment & Continuity of Operations Requirement: In accordance with Harris County’s Continuity of Operations Plan (COOP) Policy, this position is subject to emergency response and deployment protocols. The employee may be designated as supporting a Mission Essential Function (MEF) and must:

• Participate in the classification process of departmental staff based on MEF responsibilities.
• Be available for temporary deployment to an alternative work location, role, or telework assignment during emergency events.
• Confirm work assignments with their supervisor prior to reporting to any worksite during such events.
• Remain flexible in assuming alternative duties as directed to support County operations continuity.

Education: Associate's or technical degree. Experience: Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities (KSAs): Position Type, and Typical Hours of Work: Full-Time | Regular | 40 hours per week. Subject to early mornings, late evenings, weekends, and holidays at times, depending upon the project or workload. Salary: Commensurate experience, based on 26 pay periods.
