Full job description

Blockchain is connecting the world to the future of finance. As the most trusted and fastest-growing global crypto company, it helps millions of people worldwide safely access cryptocurrency. Since its inception in 2011, Blockchain has earned the trust of over 90 million wallet holders and more than 40 million verified users, facilitating over $1 trillion in crypto transactions.

We’re looking for a Senior Risk Officer to help build and run risk management across Blockchain.com. This is a company-wide role: you'll help identify, measure, and manage risk across our business lines, working closely with Compliance, Legal, Finance, Product, and Operations to strengthen our overall risk posture as we continue to scale and expand our business.

A key part of this role is supporting our expansion into regulated derivatives. Blockchain.com already offers millions of customers a trusted way to buy, sell, and hold crypto, and we're extending those offerings into regulated futures and derivatives markets in the U.S. and other jurisdictions. You'll help build out the risk management program for that and other regulated derivatives entities, working alongside their compliance and risk officers to make sure risk is identified, monitored, and escalated appropriately as the business grows.

You'll report into our broader Risk function and partner with senior leadership across the company to shape how we manage risk—from market, credit, and liquidity risk to operational, technology, and counterparty risk—while bringing specialized attention to the unique risks of our regulated derivatives activities.

If you've built or run risk programs at a financial institution and want to apply that experience across a global crypto platform, this is the perfect opportunity for you.

WHAT YOU WILL DO

  • Help design, implement, and administer risk management frameworks, policies, and controls across the company's business lines

  • Identify, measure, monitor, and report on key risk categories, including market, credit, liquidity, operational, technology, legal, and counterparty risk

  • Establish and maintain risk tolerance limits, monitor for breaches, and escalate issues to senior management and governance committees as needed

  • Support the risk management program for the firm's regulated derivatives entities, covering areas such as customer fund segregation, margin and collateral adequacy, capital risk, and settlement risk

  • Partner with the business’s compliance function and regulatory counsel to ensure risk controls meet applicable regulatory expectations across the jurisdictions in which the firm operates

  • Help oversee risk related to digital asset collateral, including valuation, haircuts, custody arrangements, and liquidation triggers

  • Prepare and deliver regular risk exposure reporting to senior management, risk committees, and, where applicable, regulators and self-regulatory organizations

  • Partner with Product and Engineering to assess and manage risk as new products and features are launched

  • Support business continuity, disaster recovery, and operational resilience planning

  • Contribute to the annual review and testing of risk management programs and controls, and help track remediation of identified gaps

  • Advise senior leadership on emerging risks as the business and its product offerings evolve, including in fast-moving areas like crypto derivatives

WHAT YOU WILL NEED

  • 8+ years of risk management experience at a financial institution, broker-dealer, futures firm, exchange, or similar regulated entity

  • Strong working knowledge of core risk disciplines—market, credit, liquidity, and operational risk—and how they apply in practice

  • Experience building, implementing, or enhancing a risk management program or framework

  • Excellent judgment and the confidence to make sound risk calls in a fast-moving, evolving business

  • Clear, plain-English communication skills–you can explain risk concepts to engineers, executives, and regulators alike

  • Comfort working across a wide range of stakeholders and business lines in a company supporting multiple regulated activities

NICE TO HAVE

  • Experience with futures, derivatives, or FCM risk management, including customer fund segregation, margin, and collateral risk

  • Experience supporting a new regulated entity through registration, licensing, or similar regulatory processes

  • Familiarity with crypto or digital asset products and their associated risks

  • Experience with enterprise risk management programs spanning multiple business lines or entities

  • Familiarity with risk considerations across multiple regulatory regimes and jurisdictions

COMPENSATIONS & PERKS

  • Competitive salary and meaningful equity in an industry-leading company.

  • Based in our Dallas office with four days per week in-person collaboration

  • Daily free lunch at the office

  • ClassPass to keep you moving and well

  • Apple equipment to do your best work

  • The opportunity to be a key player and build your career at a rapidly expanding, global technology company in an exciting, emerging industry.

  • Flexible, modern, and people-first work culture
