Here is a unique opportunity for you to expand your existing skills in strategic planning, development, and implementation of facility improvements. The Facilities Senior Planner serves as a project leader in the implementation of strategic facility planning, design, and construction within assigned region for leased properties. The Department of Social and Health Services (DSHS) leased facilities team is comprised of seven regional planners who are responsible for 103 facilities statewide and over 100 related active projects. The primary duty station is in Olympia, although the employee can be stationed from other local DSHS offices within Western WA depending on the applicant's qualifications. This role is based out of Olympia and work from home with a flexible schedule. The duration of the role will be for one year, with the possibility of becoming permanent. Still reading? Some of what you will be doing:
- Direct facilities design, project management, and oversee construction.
- Assist in the development of short- and long-range statewide planning for DSHS.
- Maintain coordination with Regional Business staff, and key partners, including the affected programs and coordinators, project managers, DSHS executive management, Department of Enterprise Services (DES), Office of Financial Management (OFM), and lessors as necessary to initiate and manage multiple projects.
- Ensure all projects meet State Environmental Policy Act requirements, International Building Code, Americans with Disabilities Act Accessibility Guidelines, and state/local building codes.
Who should apply?• Professionals who have a Bachelor's degree* involving a major study in architecture, interior design, planning, or an allied field
- And, four years of experience in government facilities planning or in a related field in a private industry.
*Additional qualifying experience may be substituted, year for year, for education.
What we're looking for:• Knowledge of theory, principles, and practice of facility planning, project supervision, and control, including physical space needs programming, economic analysis, scheduling, and space use allocations.
- Ability to establish, maintain, and improve working relationships with department, state, and local government officials, and the public, consulting interior firms, analyze facility space problems, identify physical needs, and develop alternative solutions.
- Knowledge of federal and state laws, regulations, and policies governing the Department's major business functions, including building and zoning codes and regulations.
- Ability to take several complex issues and distill them quickly, clearly, and concisely, both verbally and in writing.
- Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, Project, and SharePoint.
