Description
Our client is seeking a strategic, hands-on Director of Human Resources to build and lead the HR function for a growing trades organization. This newly created role will serve as a trusted partner to the CEO, responsible for developing the company's people strategy while also executing key day-to-day HR initiatives.
The ideal candidate is comfortable operating at both the executive and tactical levels, creating HR infrastructure from the ground up while supporting employees and leaders across union and non-union workforces. This individual will play a critical role in driving talent acquisition, workforce development, employee relations, labor relations, compliance, and organizational growth.
Bilingual Spanish communication skills are highly preferred due to the composition of the workforce.
Key Responsibilities
HR Strategy & Leadership

Partner with the CEO and leadership team to develop and execute the organization's human capital strategy.

Build and scale HR processes, programs, policies, and procedures that support company growth and workforce engagement.

Serve as a strategic advisor to leadership on organizational structure, workforce planning, succession planning, and employee development.

Establish HR metrics and reporting to support business decisions and workforce effectiveness.
Employee Handbook & HR Infrastructure

Create, implement, and maintain a comprehensive employee handbook.

Develop, standardize, and maintain job descriptions across all departments and functions.

Design and implement HR policies, procedures, and best practices.

Establish performance management, onboarding, and employee development programs.
Talent Acquisition & Workforce Development

Lead full-cycle recruitment efforts for field, skilled trades, operations, and administrative positions.

Develop workforce planning strategies to address skilled labor shortages and support business growth.

Establish recruiting partnerships with trade schools, technical colleges, workforce development programs, and industry organizations.

Create career pathing, training, apprenticeship, and leadership development initiatives.

Drive employee retention and engagement strategies.
Labor Relations & Employee Relations

Act as the primary HR resource for both union and non-union employee populations.

Support labor relations activities, collective bargaining preparation, grievance management, and contract administration as applicable.

Provide guidance to managers on employee relations matters, coaching, counseling, and performance management.

Investigate and resolve workplace concerns, complaints, and employee issues in a fair and consistent manner.
Compliance & Risk Management

Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations.

Oversee compliance related to wage and hour laws, FMLA, ADA, EEO, OSHA, workers' compensation, leave administration, and other employment requirements.

Manage employee documentation, recordkeeping, and HR audits.

Partner with leadership to minimize employment-related risk and promote a safe, compliant workplace.
Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field.

10+ years of progressive Human Resources leadership experience.

Experience building HR programs, processes, and infrastructure in a growing organization.

Strong knowledge of federal and state employment laws.
-
Experience supporting employee relations, compliance, and talent acquisition functions.
-
Ability to operate effectively in both strategic and tactical capacities.
-
HR leadership experience within the skilled trades, construction, field services, manufacturing, HVAC, electrical, plumbing, roofing, or related industries.

Experience supporting union and non-union workforces.
-
Bilingual English/Spanish proficiency.
-
Professional certifications such as SHRM-SCP or SPHR.
