Full job description
Welcome to the Agentic Commerce Era
At Commerce, our mission is to empower businesses to innovate, grow, and thrive with our open, AI-driven commerce ecosystem. As the parent company of BigCommerce, Feedonomics, and Makeswift, we connect the tools and systems that power growth, enabling businesses to unlock the full potential of their data, deliver seamless and personalized experiences across every channel, and adapt swiftly to an ever-changing market. We believe in harnessing AI responsibly to unlock new possibilities, and we’re looking for individuals who use it intentionally to solve problems, accelerate outcomes, and expand what’s possible in their role. Our purpose is to help businesses confidently solve complex commerce challenges so they can build smarter, adapt faster, and grow on their own terms. If you want to be part of a team of bold builders, sharp thinkers, and technical trailblazers who shape the future of commerce, this is the place for you.
This is the senior-most individual-contributor technical role in the Business Systems organization. You are the final architectural authority across our CRM, billing, and integration systems and the technical counterpart to stakeholders in Go to Market, Finance, and Marketing.
You will partner with leaders across the organization to understand pain points and create solutions for our greatest challenges. You'll operate across our tech stack including Salesforce, Marketo, Zuora and our integration layer, with a mandate to turn a complex, overly customized system landscape into one coherent architecture.
What You’ll Do
-
End-to-end systems architecture across CRM, billing, Marketing Ops, Revenue, and the integration/middleware layer
-
The target-state architecture that other teams build against; you set the destination, teams own delivery within it
-
Legacy modernization strategy, including active initiatives like SFDC Legacy decommissioning and the migration of Zuora integration ownership into Salesforce Lightning
-
Technical due diligence on major platform decisions: what to build, buy, retire, or replatform
-
Work directly with stakeholders to understand pain points and translate them into prioritized technical requirements, listening first and asking questions until the real problem is clear
-
Define and maintain the target-state systems architecture across Business Applications, and translate it into a sequenced, fundable roadmap
-
Serve as the final architectural authority on cross-system design decisions, resolving disagreements and explaining plainly what will or won’t work against scalability, security, cost, and maintainability, with candor about risks and tradeoffs
-
Strong communication skills, ability to manage conflict and drive consensus based on shared understanding of explicit goals, and the confidence to push back respectfully when a request does not fit
-
Create solution designs and build specifications and hand them off to the developers and admins who implement them, supporting questions during build as a collaborative partner to the team
-
Own the technical strategy for legacy decommissioning, including SFDC Legacy retirement and modernization of related integrations and workflows, with a strong bias toward follow-through
-
Keep architecture documentation current: system diagrams, integration maps, and decision records, treating documentation as part of the job rather than an afterthought
Who Are You
- 10+ years in enterprise architecture, solutions architecture, or a senior technical IC leadership role, with experience spanning CRM and billing/ERP rather than a single-system specialization, and a self-motivated learner who picks up new platforms quickly
- Experience with GTM/revenue systems (Salesforce or HubSpot), CPQ, quote-to-cash, and order-to-revenue flows
- Proven experience leading legacy system modernization or decommissioning at scale, including managing risk and sequencing migration
- Demonstrated experience acting as the final technical authority, with the humility to listen and change course when presented with better information
- Strong written communication skills, comfortable documenting complex technical tradeoffs clearly
- Comfortable operating within a standardize-first review process, including having customization decisions signed off by the VP of Technology
Nice to Have
- Experience with Zuora or a comparable billing/subscription platform
- Experience standing up or scaling AI-assisted engineering tooling
- Prior experience at a company of similar scale and complexity managing multiple platforms, actively modernizing legacy systems
