Vehicle Installation Technician Position Type : Full-Time Department: Service / Installation Location: Fredericksburg, VA Pay: Hourly Rate $21+ About the Position Communication Specialists, Inc. is seeking a skilled and dependable Vehicle Installation Technician to join our service center team. The technician will install, configure, test, troubleshoot, and service two-way radio and public-safety equipment in police, fire, EMS, municipal, and commercial vehicles. This is a hands-on position requiring strong electrical, mechanical, and troubleshooting skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently while maintaining a high standard of workmanship. Responsibilities - Install and service Motorola Solutions two-way mobile radios and related communications equipment. - Install antennas, coaxial cable, control heads, microphones, speakers, GPS equipment, and associated wiring. - Install and service in-car video and camera systems. - Install emergency lighting, sirens, speakers, consoles, push bumpers, partitions, and other vehicle equipment as required. - Perform vehicle disassembly and reassembly as necessary to complete professional installations. - Plan wiring routes for efficiency and for ease of future troubleshooting. - Route and secure wiring according to vehicle and equipment manufacturer requirements. - Perform electrical connections, crimping, soldering, testing, and troubleshooting. - Diagnose installation-related electrical and communication problems. - Program and test radio equipment and verify proper operation. - Follow vehicle manufacturer guidelines regarding airbags, electronic control modules, wiring harnesses, and other safety systems. - Maintain accurate installation and service records. - Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area. - Communicate professionally with customers and coworkers. - Follow Motorola Solutions installation standards, applicable industry practices, and company procedures. Qualifications Required : - High school diploma or equivalent. - Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record. - Experience with automotive electrical systems, vehicle wiring, electronics, or communications equipment. - Ability to read wiring diagrams and technical documentation. - Ability to use hand tools, power tools, electrical test equipment, and diagnostic equipment. - Strong mechanical and electrical troubleshooting skills. - Ability to work independently and manage multiple installations. - Ability to pass drug screening and random testing over duration of employment. - Must maintain regular and reliable attendance. - Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship. Preferred : - Previous experience installing Motorola two-way radios. - Experience installing public-safety equipment in police, fire, or EMS vehicles. - Experience with Motorola ASTRO/P25 equipment. - Experience with in-car video systems. - Experience installing emergency lighting and sirens. - Experience with automotive electronics, mobile communications, or low-voltage systems. - Motorola Solutions installation training or certifications. - EVT or other relevant technical certifications. Physical Requirements - Ability to work inside and around vehicles for extended periods. - Ability to kneel, bend, reach, climb in and out of vehicles, and work in confined areas. - Ability to lift and carry equipment and tools. - Ability to safely use hand and power tools.
