Wage Range: $43.82 - $70.41 per hour. The amounts listed are the base pay range. Job offers are determined based on a candidate's years of relevant experience, applicable education and internal equity.

JOB SUMMARY:

Consistently exhibits professional conduct that is a behavior-based expression of the hospital’s Standards of Excellence, while adhering to the hospital’s policies and procedures. Works closely with the interdisciplinary health care team to provide nutrition services and medical nutrition therapy that are integrated and compatible with the patient’s medical program goals and objectives. EDUCATION: Requires bachelor’s or advanced degree from an accredited institution with a major in dietetics, foods and nutrition. Current Washington State Department of Health license as Registered Dietitian Certification active and in good standing and current registration through the Academy of Nutrition & Dietetics.

Essential Functions:

  • ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/PRIMARY DUTIES :

  • Develops and implements medical nutrition therapy using established standards of care and practice protocols/guidelines.

  • Screens and conducts nutrition assessments for patients identified at nutritional risk using evidence-based standards.

  • Develops and implements an individualized plan for nutrition intervention in accordance with the patient’s medical program goals and objectives, nutrition prescription, and self-management training which includes consideration of age-specific needs as well as cultural, religious and ethnic concerns.

  • Provides a therapeutic plan for specialized nutrition support, including enteral and parenteral nutrition.

  • Ensures that care delivered to each patient is in accordance with the state practice act.

  • Evaluates the effectiveness and measures progress towards outcomes of medical nutrition therapy interventions. Reassesses nutrition care process and implements changes as indicated.

  • Assigns and directs the workload of diet technicians.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

ACCOUNTABILITIES/COMPETENCIES:

  • Accountability for HIPAA privacy and security standards within the department or assigned nursing unit.

  • Must possess basic skills to use Microsoft Office, specialized software and electronic office equipment.

  • Provides patient care, based on physical, psychosocial, educational, safety and related criteria, specific to the age of the patient population served in the department.

  • Adheres to organizational patient safety standards relevant to the department or assigned nursing unit.

  • Communicates with the medial team through interdisciplinary meetings, rounds and medical conferences.

  • Provides appropriate documentation that summarizes the nutrition care plan in the patient’s medical record, including nutrition assessment, diagnosis, plan, implementation and progress toward goals.

  • Nutrition Education

  • Assesses educational needs and provides nutrition counseling for individuals and groups.

  • Evaluates achievement of learning objectives by the patient and/or family.

  • Provides appropriate follow-up in accordance with the patient’s treatment goals, referring patients for additional outpatient counseling, community, or home health services as appropriate.

  • Serves as a resource to medical staff and allied health personnel on nutrition issues.

  • Assists in the education of students and interns.

  • Conducts in-services and educational presentations to hospital/department staff.

  • Plans learning experiences, teaches and evaluates performance.

  • Participates in community projects and education as needed/assigned.

  • Participates in the orientation and training of new employees in the department.

  • Works individually with patients on specific self-management behaviors. The following tasks may apply:

  • Assesses patient’s need for and interest in the consult.

  • Develops and utilizes a standardized approach to conveying the information to the patient during the consult.

  • Periodically updates the approach as new knowledge and effective teaching techniques are assimilated through continuing education and personal experience.

  • Completes documentation for purposes of patient evaluation within a reasonable period of time.

  • Practices effective time management and prioritizing of tasks.

  • Maintains accurate record keeping of daily clinical activities, including information for scheduling and billing.

11.Assists in developing and revising patient education materials, clinical forms and protocols

This position is covered by a collective bargaining agreement between EvergreenHealth Monroe and United Food and Commercial Workers (UFCW), Local 21.
