Full job description
The Division of Biokinesiology and Physical Therapy is seeking a Research Lab Technician II to assist in providing support in the Learning, Development, and Rehabilitation Laboratory directed by Dr. Kari Kretch. This is a fixed-term benefits-eligible position (with possibility for extension) at 60% effort (24 hours/week). This position is ideal for recent college graduates looking to gain research experience before applying to graduate school or industry research positions, or for clinicians looking to transition into a research career.
Research in the lab focuses on understanding the development of motor skills in infants with and without neurodevelopmental disabilities, and on developing early motor interventions that promote exploration, learning and global development. Our work is highly interdisciplinary and integrates developmental psychology, movement science, and rehabilitation science.
The technician will primarily work on an NIH-funded study using wearables and home video recordings to study everyday experiences in infants and toddlers with Down syndrome. Primary responsibilities include data collection in home and lab settings, participant recruitment and scheduling, and behavioral coding of video data.
Responsibilities include:

Overseeing day-to-day lab operations (managing schedules, ordering supplies, supervising research assistants, etc.)

Managing participant recruitment and scheduling

Collecting data with infants and families in home, lab, and virtual settings

Performing behavioral coding of video data

Contributing to scientific presentations and publications as appropriate
Minimum qualifications include:
-
Bachelor’s degree (ideally in psychology, kinesiology/movement science, child development, cognitive science, neuroscience, exercise science, or a related field, but all academic backgrounds will be considered)

Valid US driver’s license, access to a car, and ability to drive to in-home data collections in the Los Angeles area

Excellent organizational and communication skills and attention to detail

Basic computer skills (MacOS, word processing, spreadsheets, presentation software) and interest in learning new technologies

Experience working with young children

Bilingual English/Spanish

The hourly/annual rate range for this position is $25.00 - $27.00. When extending an offer of employment, the University of Southern California considers factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the candidate’s work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, federal, state, and local laws, contractual stipulations, grant funding, as well as external market and organizational considerations.

Minimum Education: Associate's degree, Specialized/technical training, Combined experience/education as substitute for minimum education Minimum Experience: 2 years Minimum Field of Expertise: Working knowledge of laboratory equipment and research protocols. Knowledge of computer analysis techniques and ability to provide routine analysis and interpretation of research data.
