Bachelor’s degree.

Minimum of one year of professional experience in Student Affairs, Higher Education, Student Success, Health Promotion, Leadership Development, or a related field.

Knowledge of college student development theory and its application to student learning, engagement, leadership development, and belonging.

Knowledge of community-building frameworks and practices that foster positive organizational culture, student well-being, and student success.
-
Knowledge of risk management principles, bystander intervention strategies, and hazing prevention practices applicable to student organizations and higher education environments.
-
Demonstrated conflict resolution, mediation, and interpersonal communication skills.

Ability to establish and maintain collaborative working relationships with students, alumni, campus partners, and community stakeholders.

Availability to work evenings and weekends as needed.
Preferred Qualifications

Master’s degree in Higher Education, Student Affairs, Student Personnel, Counseling, Public Health, Health Education, or a related field.

Experience advising fraternity and sorority organizations, student organizations, governing councils, or student leaders in a higher education setting.

Experience developing, implementing, and assessing student wellness, prevention, retention, leadership development, or belonging-focused initiatives.

Experience facilitating workshops, presentations, trainings, or educational programs for college students.

Experience responding to complex student, organizational, or community concerns through coaching, mediation, accountability, or intervention processes.

Experience using assessment data, program evaluation, or learning outcomes to inform decision-making and continuous improvement.

Knowledge of current trends, challenges, and best practices related to fraternity and sorority life, student well-being, and student retention.
Job Description
Reporting to the Associate Director for Fraternity and Sorority Life ( FSL ) in Student Involvement & Engagement, the Coordinator for Healthy Communities & Engagement acts as an advisor, coach, and advocate for the campus fraternity and sorority community. This specialized role focuses on creating out-of-classroom learning experiences that enhance student retention, physical and mental well-being, and a true sense of belonging across all governing councils. The coordinator leads initiatives that counter high-risk behaviors by embedding community care, accountability, and inclusive leadership development into the lifecycle of fraternity and sorority members.
The fraternity and sorority community comprises approximately 2,500 students (7% of the undergraduate students enrolled at the San Marcos campus and 5% of the undergraduate students overall), with 44 fraternity and sorority chapters that hold membership under one of the four governing councils.
Job Duties
Advising & Student Development

Council Support: Serve as the primary advisor for the FSL Review Board and their leadership, guiding them on policy interpretation, operational strategies, and peer accountability processes.

Chapter Coaching: Support a broad portfolio of chapters, conducting regular one-on-one developmental meetings with student leaders to ensure stability and growth.

Office Administration & Analytics: Supervise the FSL student employees to deliver exceptional student services and office communications; direct management of chapter membership rosters, official records, and comprehensive community reports to drive data-informed decision-making with support from the student workers.

Promote Healthy Intake & Recruitment: Enhance intake and recruitment processes by providing opportunities to integrate healthy belonging practices and programming and ensuring compliance with institutional guidelines and values.
Healthy Belonging & Prevention Initiatives

Policy & Research:Maintain a working knowledge of healthy belonging and prevention programs, including any requirements that flow from state or national legislation.

Harm Reduction Curriculum: Develop, implement, facilitate, and assess educational programming focused on critical wellness topics including mental health, substance misuse prevention, body perception and self-image, and sexual assault awareness using evidence-based strategies to meet the needs of the students.

Anti-Hazing Advocacy: Provide leadership for the implementation of anti-hazing programming and monitor chapter new member education plans to ensure transparent and safe initiation.
Stakeholder Collaboration & Administrative Operations

Campus Partnerships: Act as a direct liaison to Counseling Services, Student Conduct, Housing, and Title IX offices to support comprehensive student wellness.

Alumni & National Relations: Maintain continuous communication with chapter advisors, alumni boards, and international headquarters regarding health standards, current practices, and shared goals with support from the FSL Graduate Assistant.

Data & Assessment: Design evaluation tools to measure the direct impact of wellness and healthy belonging initiatives on student GPA , retention, and satisfaction.
SI&E Programming

Support large-scale programming and events.

Serve on Student Success Division committees.
