Required Qualifications: Applicants must specifically address how they meet these required qualifications to meet the requirements of the position.

  • Bachelors Degree Required.

  • Minimum of two years’ experience in post-bachelor’s experience working in student affairs, counseling, advising, or related experience.

  • Experience in program development, assessment, and public speaking.

  • Experience with large scale programming, event planning or project management.

  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with diverse constituencies both on and off campus.

  • Strong written and interpersonal communication.

  • Ability to hold and serve two distinct constituent populations with equal attentiveness and responsiveness based on the makeup of the Texas State population.

  • Ability to create campus-wide relationships and foster strategic collaborations.

  • Ability to plan, organize, and coordinate multiple projects simultaneously with professionalism and results orientation.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s or other advanced degree in Higher Education Administration, Counseling, or related field.

  • Understanding of fundamental event planning practices.

  • Understanding of the transition needs of both family member and new transfer student populations.

  • Familiarity with transfer student success research, community college pipelines, and transfer-specific challenges.

  • General student development theory, with application to family engagement and student transition programming.

  • Program development and assessment.

  • Budget management concepts.

Job Description

The Coordinator of Family and Transfer Experiences leads, manages programming, engagement, and support initiatives for two distinct yet interconnected populations. Parents/family members of new and continuing students, incoming, current transfer students at Texas State University.

Job Duties

Family Program Management:

  • Support and host an educational and engaging experience for over 7,000 new families and 3,000 transfers through New Student Orientation.

  • Coordinate annual Family Weekend and Spring Family Day experiences for over 8,000 individuals to connect families to the life of the university.

  • Assist with the development and implementation of department-wide programs including New Student Orientation, Welcome week, and other new orientation, transition, and retention initiatives.

  • Provide on-site supervision of designated events to oversee use of facilities, compliance with policies, hospitality, and assistance in problem resolution.

Transfer Program Management:

  • Coordinate and implement Transfer Orientation programming for incoming transfer students, in partnership with the Assistant Director and campus collaborators.

  • Host and execute transfer-specific retention and transition programming across the academic year, informed by transfer student success research and institutional data.

  • Serve as a programmatic point of contact for transfer student engagement, connecting students to resources, communities, and belonging opportunities.

  • Provide on-site supervision of designated events to oversee use of facilities, compliance with policies, hospitality, and assistance in problem resolution.

Constituent Engagement

  • Support communication and engagement with families through established communication channels including the Bobcat Family Portal, social media and webpages.

  • Support project teams consisting of internal and external stakeholders to host an engaging weekend-long program of activities.

  • Develop and execute print and electronic resources to serve families and transfer students.

Fiscal Management

  • Steward revenue accounts totaling over $200,000 and multiple endowed scholarships.

  • Administer scholarship programs and competitions to award over $25,000 of financial resources to current students.

Other Duties as Assigned

  • Coordinate special projects and other duties as assigned by the Director of New Student and Family Experiences or designee.
