Overview
Working at Atlassian Atlassians can choose where they work – whether in an office, from home, or a combination of the two. That way, Atlassians have more control over supporting their family, personal goals, and other priorities. We can hire people in any country where we have a legal entity.
Responsibilities
About the team Atlassian is undergoing one of the most significant business-model shifts in its history: the move from per-seat licensing to usage-based, hybrid monetization across our AI (Rovo) and platform meters. The UBP team sits at the center of this transformation — defining how customers experience allowances, usage visibility, spend controls, and enforcement across every Atlassian product. This is a rare opportunity to shape a multi-hundred-million-dollar monetization motion from the ground up, working across Product, Engineering, GTM, Finance, and Legal at the highest levels of the company.
About the role As a Principal Product Manager for UBP, you’ll own a core pillar of the usage-based monetization strategy — from vision through launch and iteration. You’ll operate with a high degree of autonomy on ambiguous, company-critical problems, and your decisions will directly influence revenue, customer trust, and the long-term monetization architecture of Atlassian. You’ll be expected to lead without authority across a large cross-functional surface, make principled trade-offs between monetization and customer experience, and set the standard for product thinking on the team.
What you’ll do
-
Own the strategy and roadmap for a major UBP domain (e.g., allowances & entitlements, admin spend controls, usage visibility, or metering & enforcement).
-
Define the customer experience for how organizations view, govern, and pay for usage — balancing revenue outcomes with customer trust and predictability.
-
Drive cross-functional execution across Engineering, Design, GTM, Marketing, Finance, and Legal, aligning senior stakeholders on contentious, high-stakes decisions.
-
Make the hard calls — e.g., default-on vs. default-off, enforcement timing, notice periods — grounded in data, industry benchmarks, and customer impact.
-
Instrument and measure what matters: adoption, allowance headroom, unplanned overage rates, and trust signals; use them to steer the roadmap.
-
Influence company-level monetization decisions by bringing rigorous analysis and clear recommendations to executive forums (CPO/CFO/CMO level).
-
Set the product bar — mentor other PMs, raise the quality of specs, decisions, and customer thinking across the team.
What we’re looking for
-
8+ years in product management, including experience owning monetization, pricing, billing, platform, or admin/governance products at scale.
-
Proven success shipping in ambiguity — you’ve taken a 0→1 or business-model-changing initiative from strategy to launch.
-
Commercial fluency — comfortable reasoning about pricing, LRP/revenue impact, and unit economics, and translating them into product decisions.
-
Executive influence — a track record of driving alignment among senior, cross-functional stakeholders with competing priorities.
-
Data-driven judgment — you define the right metrics and use them to make principled trade-offs, not just to report.
-
Customer-obsessed rigor — you protect customer trust even under revenue pressure, and can articulate the long-term cost of short-term monetization choices.
-
Exceptional communication — you distill complex, contentious topics into crisp narratives that executives can decide on quickly.
Nice to have
-
Experience with usage-based / consumption pricing (credits, metering, overage, enforcement) in a SaaS or AI context.
-
Familiarity with admin/governance surfaces (RBAC, SCIM, spend controls) or enterprise billing systems.
-
Exposure to AI product monetization and the emerging norms across the industry.
