Full job description
MANTECH seeks a motivated, career and customer-oriented Quantum Research Scientist to join our team in a remote role.
The Quantum Research Scientist will advance quantum information science and optical quantum systems, leveraging expertise in continuous-variable photonics and theoretical algorithm discovery to translate complex physical phenomena into experimental prototypes and publishable research.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
-
Conducting foundational and applied research to advance quantum information science, with a specialized focus on continuous-variable (CV) photonic quantum computing.
-
Leading theoretical algorithm discovery, establishing novel qubit modalities, and engineering advanced error-correction schemes tailored for optical and photonic quantum systems.
-
Prioritizing experimental physics integration within photonics modalities over alternative architectures.
-
Translating complex mathematical models and quantum physical phenomena into experimental prototypes, technical specifications, and publishable findings.
-
Collaborating closely with academic partners and cross-functional engineering teams to map cross-platform control policies to alternative modalities.
-
Documenting research progress and disseminating findings through technical papers, presentations, and peer-reviewed publications.
Minimum Qualifications:
-
Master’s degree in Physics, Applied Physics, Mathematics, or a related technical discipline.
-
4+ years of professional experience working in quantum computing or quantum information science.
-
Demonstrated foundational research experience in theoretical algorithm discovery, novel qubit modalities, quantum error-correction schemes, or experimental quantum physics.
-
Demonstrated experience translating complex mathematical models and physical phenomena into experimental prototypes or technical specifications.
-
Ability to travel up to 25% within the Continental U.S.
Preferred Qualifications:
-
PhD in Quantum Physics, Atomic Physics, Condensed Matter, or Computer Science with a Quantum Information Science focus.
-
A robust peer-review record, industry recognition, patents, or publications in top-tier journals (e.g., Nature, PRX, IEEE).
-
Professional certifications such as IBM Certified Quantum Computation using Qiskit Developer, MIT xPro Quantum Computing Fundamentals, or Advanced HPC/GPU Acceleration (e.g., NVIDIA CUDA).
-
Experience applying machine learning and AI algorithms to quantum control or complex physical simulations.
