Position Summary: JMT is currently looking for SUE Party Chiefs to join the Underground Utilities, Land Surveying, and Mapping team in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania! Immigration sponsorship or support (e.g. H1B, F-1 CPT/OPT/STEM OPT) is not available for this position, except for qualified candidates eligible for the TN visa classification. Essential Functions and Responsibilities 1. Supervise & lead a team of SUE technicians 2. Assigns and monitors work, and provides input for evaluation of members of field SUE staff 3. Conduct field investigations 4. Operate equipment to locate & mark subsurface utilities 5. Label topographic features from field codes 6. Perform calculations 7. Complete daily reports and field note sketches 8. Instruct and train SUE staff in methods, use of equipment, and field safety procedures 9. Participate in project meetings with Project Managers, Engineers, sub-consultants, and utility representatives. 10. Operate vacuum excavation truck to expose underground utilities 11. Interpret roadway and utility plans, and utility record drawings 12. Provides time estimates for specific tasks 13. Travel required Nonessential Functions and Responsibilities 1. Perform other related duties as assigned 2. Must successfully complete and pass JMT's Motor Vehicle screening 3. Valid driver's license required 4. Able to pass Background Check 5. Ability to lead project assignments 6. Team Attitude / Mindset 7. Must be able to fully comprehend and interpret roadway and utility construction plans, and utility record drawings 8. Good organizational, written, and verbal communications skills 9. Knowledge of Vacuum Excavation, Electromagnetic Pipe and Cable locator equipment/procedures 10. Use of multiple types of utility designation equipment 11. Able to bend, kneel, lift, and carry up to 75 lbs as needed 12. Able to work outdoors in all weather conditions 13. Minimum of five (5) years of experience in the successful application of multiple types of utility designation and locating equipment with demonstrated ability to lead project assignments and supervise field crews. 14. Minimum of five (5) years of experience performing utility designation, vacuum excavation and other SUE methods. 15. High school diploma or equivalent 16. Able to work 7:00 am - 4:00 pm Monday - Friday (Minimum) 17. Ability to travel is required Preferred Experience 1. Experience using Ground Penetrating Radar is preferred but not necessary 2. Surveying experience preferred but not necessary Working Conditions Work is performed in the field 90% of the time. Ability to extensively perform bending, kneeling, standing, shoveling, and lifting and carrying objects weighing 50 - 75+ lbs. as needed. Work may be conducted outside in heat/cold, wet/humid, and dry/arid conditions. Work is performed within a general office environment 10% of the time. Office work is generally sedentary in nature but may require occasional standing and walking. Lighting and temperature are adequate and there are no hazardous or unpleasant conditions caused by noise, dust, etc. within the office environment. Some travel required.
