Full job description

This posting will be open until October 31, 2026. Applications received after this date may not be considered.

Redfin and Rocket are rebuilding the rental experience from the ground up. Rentals is one of the largest, most fragmented corners of real estate — millions of renters every month navigating a search-to-lease journey that is slow, opaque, and disconnected from everything that comes next. We have the audience, the data, and the distribution to fix it. What we don't have yet is the product.

As Lead Product Designer for Rentals, you’ll be the founding design voice on a business we’re rebuilding from zero to one, serving renters (B2C) and the property managers and landlords who list to them (B2B). We’re building the B2B side from the ground up, so you’ll have real say in what it becomes. You’ll partner directly with the Director of Product, Rentals, and a small, senior engineering team to define what we build, prove it fast, and ship it to a real audience at real scale. This is a true greenfield mandate with the backing of a company that already reaches 50M+ monthly visitors.

We're looking for someone who works fast and modern. The designers doing the best work right now are using AI to compress the distance between an idea and something real — generating and pressure-testing concepts in hours, building working prototypes instead of static flows, and spending the time they save on judgment and craft. We want someone who already works this way and will raise the ceiling for how the rest of the team does, too.

About the role

  • Own end-to-end design for the Rentals experience for both renters and property managers — from the first search to a signed lease.
  • Set the product vision for a business that doesn't exist yet: define the bets worth making, make them concrete enough to argue about, and sequence the path from first shippable thing to category-defining product.
  • Move from idea to evidence fast. Use AI and prototyping tools to put real, testable artifacts in front of users and stakeholders in days rather than weeks, and let what you learn reshape the plan.
  • Partner with the Director of Product, Rentals as a true peer — co-owning strategy, scope, and tradeoffs rather than receiving requirements.
  • Design the B2B experience from scratch, including the tools property managers use to list, manage, and connect with renters.
  • Ground decisions in both numbers and people. Run lightweight research, read the funnel, and know which signal to trust when they disagree.
  • Build on our design system where it serves renters, and make the case for departing from it where it doesn't.

About you

  • 8+ years as a product designer, with a portfolio of shipped products you can speak to in depth — what you decided, what you got wrong, and what the work actually did for users and the business.
  • You've done zero-to-one work before and know how it differs from optimizing something mature. You're comfortable making decisions on incomplete information and changing your mind when the data arrives.
  • AI-native in practice, not in theory. You use AI tools daily in your design process and can show us how. You have a point of view on where they help, where they don't, and how designers should be working two years from now.
  • A systems thinker who can hold a multi-sided marketplace in your head — renters, property managers, listings, and the rest of the Redfin and Rocket ecosystem.
  • Exceptional craft. You care about the details that make a product feel trustworthy, and you can defend why they matter to people who'd rather ship without them.
  • A compelling communicator who can make a vision legible to engineers, executives, and skeptics — and move a room with it.
  • Scrappy and self-directed. You'd rather build the thing than write the deck about the thing.
  • Genuinely interested in renters. The people using this product are often at their most stressed and least served. That should feel like an opportunity to you.
  • Experience with marketplaces or B2B products is a plus. You can hold a multi-sided system in your head: renters, property managers, listings, and the rest of the Redfin and Rocket ecosystem.
