The Laboratory Department at Union Health is looking for an experienced Lab Technical Coordinator to join our team. We are looking for an individual who is committed to providing accurate, timely, and high-quality laboratory services while supporting their team in a fast-paced healthcare environment.
The Laboratory Technical Coordinator/Senior Technologist plays an important role in supporting daily laboratory operations, providing technical oversight, performing laboratory testing, assisting with quality assurance activities, and serving as a technical resource for laboratory staff, phlebotomy/lab assistant staff, nursing staff, and providers. This position also assists with staff training and competency, workflow coordination, troubleshooting, quality control, regulatory compliance, and maintaining the highest standards of laboratory testing.

Essential Job Duties:
-
Perform, review, and report laboratory testing according to approved procedures and applicable regulatory requirements.
-
Serve as a technical resource for laboratory staff, phlebotomy/lab assistant staff, nursing staff, providers, and approved students.
-
Provide technical staff coverage and assist with daily laboratory workflow coordination as needed.
-
Assist with staff training, orientation, coaching, continuing education, performance reviews, and competency documentation.
-
Support quality control, quality assurance, proficiency testing, regulatory compliance, and accreditation readiness.
-
Assist with new test development, evaluation, validation, procedure review, and laboratory standardization.
-
Perform result review, critical value review, reagent and instrument testing, calibration verification, and other required quality activities.
-
Troubleshoot laboratory instruments and testing systems and coordinate vendor support when necessary.
-
Maintain accurate documentation related to QC, QA, maintenance, patient testing, corrective actions, and regulatory requirements.

Evaluate specimens for proper identification, collection, labeling, handling, and test requirements and reject unacceptable specimens according to policy.

Prepare specimens for in-house and reference laboratory testing, including processing, storage, routing, packaging, and shipping.

Use the Laboratory Information System to accurately enter and verify patient information, orders, specimens, results, reports, and result transmission.

Collect blood and other specimens when required or assigned.

Communicate effectively and professionally with laboratory staff, physicians, nurses, patients, and other departments.

Participate in required meetings, quality improvement initiatives, committees, and special projects.
-
Perform other related duties as assigned.
Position Requirements:
-
Bachelor’s or Associate’s degree in chemical, physical, biological, clinical laboratory science, or medical technology from an accredited institution; or meet applicable military laboratory training requirements.
-
Must meet CLIA requirements for testing personnel based on the complexity of testing performed.
-
ASCP, AMT, or NCA certification or eligibility preferred.
-
Minimum of 3 years of laboratory technologist experience required; 5 years preferred.
-
Experience or training in high-complexity laboratory testing specialties is preferred, particularly in areas requiring technical supervisor oversight.
-
Strong knowledge of laboratory testing principles, specimen requirements, quality control, quality assurance, instrument maintenance, and troubleshooting.
-
Ability to train, coach, support, and provide technical guidance to laboratory staff.
-
Ability to recognize abnormal or unexpected results and situations requiring escalation.
-
Basic computer, keyboarding, and Laboratory Information System skills.
-
Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment and during emergency situations.

Depending on staffing needs, must be willing to participate in weekend, holiday, and overtime coverage to ensure continuity of laboratory operations.
