Our Emergency Room RN’s play a key role in providing the highest quality of patient care while the patient is in at Union Health. The Emergency Department at Union Hospital provides emergency care for patients of all ages, treating various common illnesses and injuries, and performing immediate treatment and lifesaving procedures in all types of emergency situations.

This unit is led by Nursing Care Manager, Heather LaFave.

Essential & valuable nursing skills gained on this unit :

  • Rapid assessment and triage

  • Advance procedures (IV insertion, wound care, surgical procedure assistance)

  • Diagnostic proficiency (interpreting labs, EKGs, radiology films)

  • Critical thinking, multitasking, adaptability, and triaging

  • Effective teamwork among all skill levels

  • Trauma care

Unit Culture :

  • 12-14 weeks new graduate RN orientation

  • Nurse Residency for new graduate RN's

  • Preceptor and Mentor Support

  • Fostering environment for teamwork

  • Ancillary services such as phlebotomy, radiology, pharmacy, case management, respiratory therapy, and transport services offer nursing support

  • Open communication with leadership and shared ideas to support growth of unit and individual

RN Job Details:

Essential Job Duties :

  • Collaborates with the physician or manager to determine needs of patients

  • Completes the routine physical assessment using common assessment skills in a systematic manner.

  • Contributes to plan of care for pre-defined patient problems.

  • Respects patients' rights, including the right to inform, privacy, confidentiality, and the right to refuse care.

  • Assists with patient education to promote self-care and patient independence.

  • Follows company policies and procedures and department protocols.

  • Assists the physician with special procedures.

Qualifications:

  • Graduate from an accredited ASN or BSN program

  • Must have Indiana RN license

  • Previous RN experience preferred

License/Certification :

  • BLS, ACLS, PALS, NIH, TNCC certification

  • IN RN license
