Full job description

Overview

As AI reshapes how organizations create, share, and consume information, the ability to protect sensitive data and prevent its unintended exposure has emerged as one of the most critical challenges facing every enterprise.

At Microsoft, we are committed to helping organizations secure AI to enable trustworthy AI transformation. This role sits at the center of that transformation, helping organizations build the trusted data foundation required to adopt AI securely, protect their most valuable assets, and enable innovation with confidence at scale.

Microsoft Security is looking for a Product Marketing Manager to join the Secure Data Solution Marketing team and lead marketing efforts for our practitioner audience, including driving usage of Purview, our data security product. This role will connect the dots across the lower funnel, using customer and product signals to identify where users encounter friction, uncover the pathways that lead to successful adoption, and translate those insights into experiences that drive sustained usage.

You will work across scale channels including trials, product-led growth (PLG), relationship marketing, in-product experiences, documentation, Tech Community, and practitioner engagement. You’ll partner closely with Product, Engineering, and Marketing teams to identify high-impact usage opportunities, test new approaches, and build repeatable motions that help customers realize value faster.

We’re looking for a customer-obsessed marketer to join our team of collaborative marketing members who are individually brilliant, love working with each other, take ownership, and embrace a growth mindset. The ideal candidate has deep customer empathy and is technically credible, with the ability to turn real customer challenges, deep product understanding into clear strategy and high-quality content. They are both strategic and hands-on, and build trusted partnerships across product, engineering, sales, marketing, and leadership teams to drive alignment and results.

Responsibilities

  • Drive usage across the customer journey. Identify opportunities to move customers from trial and initial engagement to deeper, sustained product usage across scale channels.

  • Uncover the paths to adoption. Analyze customer behaviors and usage signals to identify friction, drop-off points, and the “golden paths” that correlate with successful adoption.

  • Connect insights across channels. Bring together signals from trials, PLG, relationship marketing, Tech Community, practitioner engagement, and other customer touchpoints to develop an integrated view of the customer journey.

  • Turn insights into experiences. Translate customer and product insights into targeted experiences such as lifecycle email, in-product prompts, documentation, videos, technical content, webinars, and Tech Community AMAs. Test, learn, and optimize. Develop hypotheses, execute experiments, measure results, and continuously improve experiences based on customer behavior and performance data.

  • Build repeatable usage motions. Codify successful experiments into scalable programs and playbooks.

  • Champion the practitioner. Develop a strong understanding of data security practitioners, their workflows, and the barriers that prevent them from realizing product value.

  • Partner cross-functionally. Work with Product, Engineering, Field, Community, and Marketing stakeholders to translate customer insights into coordinated usage-driving programs. Measure business impact. Establish and track success metrics tied to activation, engagement, adoption, and sustained usage, using insights to recommend where the team should invest next.

Qualifications

Required/minimum qualifications

  • Master's Degree in Marketing, Computer Science, Business or related field AND 1+ year(s) experience in business OR Bachelor's Degree in Marketing, Computer Science, Business or related field AND 2+ years experience in business OR equivalent experience.

Additional or preferred qualifications

  • Master's Degree in Marketing, Computer Science, Business or related field AND 3+ years experience in business OR Bachelor's Degree in in Marketing, Computer Science, Business or related field AND 5+ years experience in business OR equivalent experience.

  • Experience developing and executing customer adoption, engagement, lifecycle, or product-led growth programs.

  • Experience using quantitative and qualitative customer insights to identify opportunities and translate them into actionable marketing programs. Demonstrated ability to manage cross-functional projects and execute programs across multiple teams and stakeholders. Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to translate technical concepts and customer insights into clear, compelling experiences.

  • Strong analytical mindset with experience defining success metrics, evaluating program performance, and using results to inform next steps.

  • Experience marketing cybersecurity, data security, compliance, risk, or other technical B2B products.

  • Experience with SaaS or product-led growth motions, including trial conversion, activation, adoption, retention, and lifecycle engagement. Experience designing or optimizing digital customer journeys across email, in-product experiences, documentation, community, video, webinars, or other scale channels.

  • Familiarity with experimentation methodologies, customer journey analytics, funnel analysis, and behavioral segmentation.

  • Experience engaging technical practitioners and translating practitioner needs into content or experiences that drive product adoption.

  • Ability to operate in a highly cross-functional environment, connecting disparate customer and product signals into a clear point of view and actionable plan.
