Full job description

Boston College Introduction

Founded in 1863, Boston College is a Jesuit, Catholic university located six miles from downtown Boston with an enrollment of 9,654 full-time undergraduates and 5,072 graduate and professional students. Ranked 37 among national universities, Boston College has 923 full-time and 1,336 FTE faculty, 2,822 non-faculty employees, an operating budget of $1.4 billion, and an endowment in excess of $3.9 billion.

Job Description

Reporting to Professor Ray D. Madoff, Faculty Director, the Assistant Director oversees the financial, operational, and administrative functions of the Initiative for Tax Reform and the Common Good at Boston College Law School. The Faculty Director directs the Initiative's substance and priorities; the Assistant Director administers the Initiative’s budget and gift funds, keeps the Director’s schedule, correspondence, and the Initiative’s logistics running smoothly, coordinates outside consultants and experts, tracks deliverables and timelines, and manages the Initiative’s social media and marketing presence.

This position may be structured as either part-time or full-time — both will be considered. The appointment runs through May 31, 2028, with a strong likelihood of extension based on continued funding. Some early morning, evening, or weekend work may be required. Please include a cover letter describing your interest in the role and the mission with your application.

Full-Time Equivalent Hiring Range: $61,050 to $76,300; salary commensurate with relevant experience.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree required; JD degree preferred.

  • 2 years of related experience in program administration, project management, finance, or executive support; higher education, law, or policy/advocacy setting preferred.

  • A genuine commitment to the Initiative’s mission is essential to this role. We are seeking someone who cares deeply about building a fairer, more coherent tax system — not simply an administrator, but a colleague who is personally invested in the cause and motivated by the prospect of turning sound tax-policy ideas into real legislative change.

  • Experience managing budgets, financial tracking, and reconciliations; PeopleSoft Financials experience preferred.

  • Advanced-level experience with standard office software (Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, Adobe, online calendars, databases, mail merges).

  • Strong organizational and project-management skills; extremely detail-oriented; able to manage multiple projects and complex calendaring.

  • Experience managing social media and supporting marketing or communications.

  • Excellent written and oral communication; skilled at composing correspondence and recording minutes.

  • Self-starter who works well independently and in a small team, with sound judgment in a fast-paced environment.

  • Discretion and the ability to handle confidential matters; a high degree of professionalism, tact, and patience.
