Youth Advocate | Emma B. Howe Northeast Family YMCA | $20.00 per hour At a Glance: Use your lived experience to help create meaningful change for young people impacted by foster care and other systems. As a Youth Advocate, you’ll collaborate with other youth leaders, community partners, and decision-makers to elevate youth voices, strengthen programs, and advocate for positive change at the local and state level. Schedule:

Local meetings every other Monday, 4:30 pm to 7:30pm

State meetings via Zoom on the last Wednesday of each month, 4:00pm to 6:00pm
-
Two overnight summer retreats

One overnight fall retreat

One overnight winter retreat

Additional meetings, events, and advocacy activities as needed
Pay: The rate for this position is $20.00 hourly. We take into consideration an individual’s background and experience in determining salary; therefore, base pay offered may vary considerably depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The compensation package for full-time includes a wide range of benefits (medical, dental, life, disability, and more) as well as generous paid time off and free membership. Part-time benefits will vary. 1. Job Summary: The Youth Advocate - Foster Youth Leadership Council is passionate about making positive and meaningful changes. The Youth Advocate has experience with the foster care system, justice system, homelessness, and/or exploitation to inform and improve the experience for others. Through the Youth Leadership Council, Youth Advisory Board-Foster Care, or Youth Advisory Board-Youth Justice, Youth Advocates will contribute to YMCA programming, community initiatives, training, events, and activities at the county and state level. The incumbent will work with a team of youth to elevate their stories, develop professionally, and commit to influencing the systems that have impacted them. The incumbent will provide a safe, enjoyable experience and adhere to all employee standards.
- Essential Functions:

Working as part of a team to plan and implement program activities within the YMCA, broader community, and at the county and state level focused on improving the experience for system-involved youth.

Participate in all required meetings related to their programming.

Local meeting every other Monday from 4:30pm to 7:30pm.

State meetings on the last Wednesday of the month 4:00 pm to 6:00pm on Zoom.

Two Summer retreats, one Fall retreat, and one Winter retreat all with overnights.

Provide insight to outside partners for youth support and programming.

Maintain a safe environment.

Assist in special programs and activities as required by supervisor.
- Relationships: This position reports to the Youth Support Program Manager who reports to the Youth Support Program Manager. The incumbent interacts regularly with staff, other young people, and the community. This position requires regular interaction with people from a variety of diverse backgrounds. 4. Qualifications:

This group consists of foster leaders with varying experiences and personalities, so there is room for everybody on this team. You don’t have to be an extrovert, just dedicated to the cause.

Must be motivated, organized, and creative.

Must be team oriented.

Must be passionate about bettering the foster care system.

Ability and interest in working with people of diverse backgrounds.

Strong communication and mediation skills.
- Physical Demand: Must be able to actively participate in meetings, presentations, and any other planned activities. 6. Additional Notes: This job description represents the major functions of the position but is not intended to be all-inclusive. The incumbent is also responsible for taking direction from branch representatives in completing projects or performing duties deemed necessary for the branch or Association success.
The YLC is currently working on ensuring that funds for Foster Care programming across the state are replenished. This group is currently very active in the foster community and are at the Capitol frequently as hands-on advocates. They are looking for Youth Advocates who want to join in on this project.
