Duties

The United States Space Force (USSF) at Schriever Space Force Base, Colorado is searching for a Senior Budget Analyst for 22 SOPS (NH-0560-03, GS 12/13 equivalent). Description: Mission Delta 31, 22d Space Operations Squadron is seeking a high-performing, analytical Senior Budget Analyst to drive mission-critical financial programs and secure funding required to operate, sustain, and equip space operations. Operating as a trusted advisor to senior leadership, the selected candidate will bridge strategic intent with fiscal reality across the entire budget lifecycle, spearheading multi-year budget estimates, funding justifications, and spending forecasts aligned with United States Space Force and Air Force Installation and Mission Support Center requirements. This pivotal role demands extensive expertise in executing diverse appropriations, analyzing spending trends, and evaluating complex tenant reimbursement processes. As a key organizational liaison, the analyst will represent the squadron across higher headquarters (HHQ), Combat Forces Command (CFC), and Geographically Separated Units (GSUs) to negotiate resource allocations while overseeing critical government travel and purchase card programs, including the Defense Travel System (DTS), Government Travel Card (GTC), and Government Purchase Card (GPC) as an approving official. Ultimately, the position requires an exceptional communicator and strategic problem-solver who can deliver high-impact executive briefings, prepare authoritative staff summary packages, and navigate Space Force resourcing structures to directly advance national space readiness. What a typical day looks like: - Budget Strategy & Forecasting: Collaborating with program managers across the Squadron to build annual and multi-year budget estimates, researching spending trends, and drafting clear narrative justifications to secure necessary funding. Maintain updated unfunded requirements tracking sheet. - Active Financial Monitoring: Tracking real-time expenditures and obligations, identifying differences between actual spending and planned budgets, and proposing swift, strategic adjustments to optimize resource allocation. - Program Administration: Overseeing key organizational programs, including the approval and management of official staff travel (via the Defense Travel System) and managing high-level government purchase and travel card programs. - Briefings & Reporting: Preparing concise status-of-funds reports, drafting formal correspondence or position papers, and presenting clear briefings to leadership to support critical decision-making. - Communication with HHQ: Squadron focal point for meetings with Higher Headquarters and completing their reporting task requirements. Ideal Candidate: The ideal candidate must possess an extensive background in federal and military financial management; specifically in developing squadron-level budget requirements, monitoring diverse funding sources (appropriations, allotments, and reimbursables), and executing multi-year estimates for United States Space Force and Air Force Installation and Mission Support Center programs. Candidate must have proven administrative and training expertise in key government systems, including the Defense Travel System (DTS), the Government Travel Card (GTC) program, and serving as an approving official for the Government Purchase Card (GPC). Additionally, they must possess exceptional critical-thinking and communication skills to resolve complex budgetary problems, compile technical staff packages, and deliver briefings to senior leadership under tight deadlines.
