About the role and team
Product at Uber means making decisions without perfect information—and owning the outcomes. As a Senior Product Manager, you will turn complex marketplace problems into a clear strategy and lead teams to deliver measurable results for riders and drivers.
You will join Mobility Matching, the team that builds how Uber connects riders and drivers.
Matching requires decisions about which driver receives a trip offer, how to present that offer, and when to make the match. These decisions balance rider wait times, pickup ETAs, driver choice, and marketplace efficiency. Each decision can affect the options available to other riders and drivers.
You will own the strategy and outcomes for a significant area of Mobility Matching. You will combine customer insights, marketplace data, and technical judgment to identify opportunities, set priorities across teams, and improve how matching works across global markets.
What you’ll do
-
Define a product vision and strategy for your domain. Build a roadmap that connects near-term improvements with long-term changes to Uber’s matching systems and experiences.
-
Lead initiatives across teams to improve how Uber allocates driver supply, presents trip offers, and makes dispatch decisions as rider demand and driver availability change.
-
Partner with Engineering and Data Science to turn predictions and optimization models into product improvements. Define objectives, constraints, and tradeoffs that reflect rider needs, driver preferences, and marketplace outcomes.
-
Align Engineering, Data Science, Design, Operations, and partner product teams around shared goals. Resolve competing priorities and manage dependencies across matching systems and customer experiences.
-
Translate customer problems and marketplace opportunities into clear requirements, testable hypotheses, and measurable outcomes.
-
Set an experimentation strategy that accounts for how matching changes affect both riders and drivers. Use research, experiments, and market-level results to guide investment and launch decisions.
-
Own outcomes from strategy through launch and iteration. Assess effects on completed trips, time to match, pickup ETAs, driver acceptance, and driver time spent without a rider.
-
Communicate strategy, results, and risks to senior leaders. Make clear recommendations when customer needs, technical limits, and business objectives compete.
Basic Qualifications
-
6+ years of experience as a Product Manager, with a track record of delivering complex products or platforms at scale with measurable impact.
-
Bachelor degree or equivalent
-
Proven ability to turn unclear problems into a focused strategy and execution plan for initiatives that span multiple teams.
-
Strong technical depth. Able to partner with engineering leaders on system design, identify technical risks, and make informed decisions about dependencies and implementation tradeoffs.
-
Experience defining objectives, success metrics, and roadmaps for a significant product area, and holding teams accountable for results.
-
Strong analytical skills and experience leading experimental product development with Data Science. Able to assess evidence, challenge assumptions, and make decisions under uncertainty.
-
Ability to guide design decisions for complex products. Experience using customer research to connect system behavior with clear, useful customer experiences.
-
Experience presenting strategy and results to executives, resolving disagreements, and securing support across teams.
-
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Business, or a related technical or quantitative field.
Preferred Qualifications
-
Experience with two-sided marketplaces, matching, dispatch, recommendations, or optimization.
-
Experience with products that combine machine learning or operations research with real-time decisions and customer-facing experiences.
-
Experience designing experiments in marketplaces where treatment effects can extend beyond the users in a test.
-
Ability to balance customer choice, system efficiency, and long-term marketplace health.
-
Experience defining new product areas and making substantial improvements to established systems.
-
Experience launching products across markets with different customer needs, supply conditions, and operating constraints.
-
Experience setting quality standards, monitoring product health, and leading teams through launch issues and root-cause reviews.
-
A track record of mentoring PMs, improving product practices, and contributing to hiring.
