Full job description

Job Description

We are seeking an experienced Instructional Designer with advanced Articulate Storyline expertise and strong digital accessibility knowledge to support the development of highly interactive, accessible system training. This role will focus on creating realistic system simulations and scenario-based learning experiences that allow learners to practice processes in an environment that closely mirrors a live enterprise system. The ideal candidate is not simply an instructional designer who has worked in Storyline. We are looking for someone who can independently build complex, interactive simulations while incorporating accessibility throughout the design and development process. The initial project will support training related to Leaves of Absence within the Peoplesoft HR system, with the potential to expand into additional training modules following the initial pilot. Key Responsibilities

  • Design and develop interactive, accessible digital learning experiences using Articulate Storyline and Articulate Rise.
  • Build sophisticated system simulations that recreate realistic user workflows and allow learners to make selections, enter information, navigate processes, and receive meaningful feedback based on their actions.
  • Develop scenario-based learning that requires learners to apply knowledge and make decisions rather than simply consume content.
  • Incorporate accessibility requirements throughout the development lifecycle.
  • Partner with subject matter experts to understand complex processes and translate that knowledge into intuitive, effective learning experiences.
  • Review existing documentation, job aids, training materials, learning objectives, and other artifacts to quickly build subject-matter understanding.
  • Develop storyboards and incorporate feedback through multiple stakeholder review cycles.
  • Translate complicated business processes into clear learning scenarios, simulations, and training content.
  • Develop supporting training materials, including content for web-based training, virtual instructor-led training, and facilitator guides.
  • Incorporate elements such as audio, transcripts, imagery, learner feedback, and other training components as appropriate.
  • Work effectively in situations where subject matter knowledge may reside primarily with SMEs and help extract and document that knowledge.
  • Collaborate with internal SMEs and stakeholder groups to evaluate feedback and refine learning content.

What Success Looks Like The strongest candidate will be someone who can take an existing process, work with SMEs to understand the nuances behind it, and independently translate that knowledge into an accessible, realistic, scenario-driven learning experience. We are placing greater emphasis on demonstrated expertise and quality of work than a specific number of years of experience. Candidates should be prepared to speak in detail about complex Storyline system simulations they have developed and how they have incorporated accessibility into their work. Initial Project Scope The initial pilot centers around a Leaves of Absence training program and is expected to include several learning formats:

  • Knowledge-based WBT: Scenario-driven learning covering concepts, requirements, and decision-making.
  • Interactive System Simulation: Hands-on Storyline simulation requiring learners to navigate and process realistic scenarios.
  • Scenario-Based Learning: Training focused on monitoring and managing leave scenarios and choosing appropriate courses of action.
  • Virtual Instructor-Led Training: Training focused on more complex cases, supported by a facilitator guide and SME expertise.

Skills and Requirements

  • Advanced proficiency with Articulate Storyline, particularly the development of complex, interactive system simulations.

  • Demonstrated experience designing accessible digital learning or training content.

  • Strong understanding of accessibility considerations within eLearning and interactive course development.

  • Experience developing scenario-based learning where users receive feedback based on their decisions or actions.

  • Ability to build simulations that go beyond simple "click here" demonstrations and provide learners with realistic, hands-on experience.

  • Strong instructional design fundamentals, including storyboarding, learning objectives, learner assessment, feedback, and content development.

  • Ability to work with SMEs to extract, organize, and translate complex subject matter into effective training.

  • Experience managing stakeholder feedback and incorporating revisions through structured review cycles.

  • Ability to quickly learn unfamiliar systems, processes, and subject matter.

  • Strong communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills.

  • Experience developing training within HR/HCM environments, including topics such as: o Absence Management (Leaves of absence, accruals, payouts, etc.) o Benefits Management (Eligibility, Action & Reason Codes, etc.) o Payroll Management (Submitting 1-time pay, adjustments, retro pay, etc.) o Workforce administration (Position overview, management, funding control, etc.)

  • Experience developing simulations or training for enterprise HR platforms such as PeopleSoft, Workday, or similar systems.

  • Experience developing both web-based training (WBT), virtual instructor-led training (VILT) and HTML job aids.

  • Experience creating facilitator guides and other supporting learning materials.

  • Experience working in environments with rigorous digital accessibility requirements.

We are a company committed to creating diverse and inclusive environments where people can bring their full, authentic selves to work every day. We are an equal employment opportunity/affirmative action employer that believes everyone matters. Qualified candidates will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, ethnicity, religion, sex (including pregnancy), sexual orientation, gender identity and expression, marital status, national origin, ancestry, genetic factors, age, disability, protected veteran status, military or uniformed service member status, or any other status or characteristic protected by applicable laws, regulations, and ordinances.
