Schwab Retirement Plan Services (RPS) is transforming the digital experiences that support plan sponsors, participants, advisors, and internal teams. As a UX Designer on the RPS Digital team, you will shape how users interact with our digital products and help define the future of our sponsor-facing experiences.

Serving as the voice of the user across the product lifecycle, you will design intuitive, accessible business-to-business (B2B) experiences that simplify complex plan administration. Partnering with Product Owners, Product Managers, researchers, architects, developers, and other stakeholders, you will balance user needs, business goals, and technical constraints to deliver solutions that improve satisfaction, adoption, and efficiency.

What You Will Do

User Experience Strategy & Design

  • Create user flows, journey maps, wireframes, mockups, prototypes, and interaction designs.

  • Translate business requirements and user needs into intuitive, scalable solutions.

  • Identify opportunities to simplify complex workflows and improve usability.

  • Promote consistency across products through established design systems and UX standards.

  • Contribute to the long-term vision for modernized digital experiences.

User Research & Validation

  • Plan and conduct user interviews, usability studies, surveys, and feedback sessions.

  • Analyze user behavior, qualitative feedback, and experience metrics to identify improvement opportunities.

  • Validate proposed solutions through testing and iterative design refinement.

  • Partner with Product Owners and business stakeholders to understand user challenges and priorities.

  • Advocate for user-centered decision making throughout the product lifecycle.

Product & Agile Collaboration

  • Work closely with Product Owners to refine requirements and define user stories.

  • Collaborate with developers and architects to ensure designs are feasible and implementable.

  • Participate in PI Planning, sprint planning, backlog refinement, and solution reviews.

  • Provide detailed design specifications and support implementation throughout delivery.

  • Review completed work to ensure experience quality and alignment with design intent.

Modernization & Innovation

  • Lead UX activities supporting major transformation initiatives.

  • Evaluate emerging design practices, tools, and industry trends.

  • Leverage analytics and customer insights to drive continuous experience improvements.

  • Identify opportunities to increase digital adoption, efficiency, and self-service capabilities.

  • Help establish UX best practices across the RPS Digital organization.

What you have

To ensure that we fulfill our promise of "challenging the status quo," this role has specific qualifications that successful candidates should have.

Required Qualifications:

  • Experience designing enterprise or business-to-business digital experiences.

  • Proficiency with modern UX design and prototyping tools such as Figma, Sketch, Adobe XD, or similar platforms.

  • Experience conducting user research and usability testing.

  • Ability to present and defend design decisions to stakeholders and leadership.

  • Strong communication, facilitation, and collaboration skills.

  • Ability to balance user needs, business objectives, regulatory requirements, and technical constraints.
