About this Role
Ampacity is looking for a Lead Data Engineer to lead the rebuild and modernization of our data platform. This hands-on role will stabilize our current Azure Data Factory pipelines and lead their migration into an Azure Databricks lakehouse that supports reporting, analytics, and business growth.
Reporting to the Senior Director of Technology, you’ll own the platform’s technical direction and help hire and mentor the data team as it grows.
Pay Range: $120,000 - $130,000 Hybrid Model: 1-2 days at Georgia Technology Office or Fully Remote
What You'll Do
-
Stabilize and maintain our existing Azure Data Factory pipelines while leading their migration into a new Databricks lakehouse
-
Design and build that lakehouse on Delta Lake and Unity Catalog, using a bronze/silver/gold architecture
-
Replay our archive of daily source snapshots into the new platform to rebuild accurate history
-
Decide, source by source, when data belongs in point-in-time snapshots and when it needs true change tracking, then design pipelines that reflect how the data actually changes
-
Build transformation and integration logic in SQL and Python
-
Set standards for version control, testing, documentation, and deployments
-
Work directly with finance and operations teams to understand what their reports need to show, and explain data issues to them in plain terms
-
Monitor data quality and troubleshoot pipeline and performance issues
-
Lead technical projects, mentor junior engineers, and help hire the team as it grows
-
Take on additional responsibilities as the role evolves
What You'll Bring
-
5+ years of hands-on data engineering, including pipelines you personally designed and supported in production
-
Strong experience with Azure Data Factory, including inheriting and fixing pipelines someone else built
-
Hands-on experience with Databricks, Delta Lake, Unity Catalog, and medallion architecture
-
Strong SQL and Python
-
Experience modeling historical data. You can explain, from your own work, when snapshots are the right call and when slowly changing dimensions are
-
Experience moving a legacy ETL platform (ADF, SSIS, Informatica, or similar) to a modern lakehouse
-
Git-based version control for data pipelines
-
Experience leading projects and helping junior engineers grow. You don’t need to have held a “Lead” title; we care that you’ve led the work
-
Comfort working independently on a small team
-
Clear communication with non-technical stakeholders
-
Strongly preferred: experience leading a greenfield build or major data platform rebuild
Nice to Have
-
ERP data experience
-
Power BI, dbt , and CI/CD for data pipelines
-
Energy or construction industry experience is welcome but not required
