Description

The Department of Global Languages and Cultures in the College of Arts & Sciences at Texas A&M University invites applications for a full-time academic professional track (non-tenure) position as a Lecturer or Senior Lecturer, depending on qualifications, in Spanish language with a 9-month academic appointment beginning in spring 2027.

Candidates should demonstrate expertise and/or strong interest in:

  • Spanish for the Health Professions

  • Translation and Interpreting

Experience working with heritage speakers is highly desirable.

The successful candidate will be expected to teach four (4) courses per semester in Spanish language, primarily in the fields above, from the beginning to the advanced level, and to contribute to program building in Spanish language and to provide academic service, in a manner consistent with their appointment, to the mission of the department and university. Depending on program needs, there may also be opportunities to develop and/or teach pertinent additional courses.

The Department of Global Languages and Cultures offers degrees/programs in modern languages and Classics, Global Studies, and graduate degrees in Hispanic Studies, in addition to offering undergraduate minors in Africana Studies, Religious Studies, and Jewish Studies. Qualifications

For appointments at the Lecturer or Senior Lecturer level, applicants must have a doctoral degree in Spanish or a closely related discipline and significant teaching experience at the college level in the field or in a related field, or a master's level degree appropriate for the field in which the faculty member will teach and significant teaching experience at the college level in the field or in a related field, or candidates with an extraordinary record of accomplishment in an applied setting will be considered but preference will be given to candidates with college teaching experience.

Rank-specific experience requirements include:

  • Lecturer: Candidates must have a minimum of 5 years of teaching at the college level in a related field to be considered for a Lecturer appointment. Commensurate experience in an applied setting considered.

  • Senior Lecturer: Candidates must have a minimum of 8 years of teaching at the college level in a related field to be considered for a Senior Lecturer appointment; candidates with 10 years or more preferred. Commensurate experience in an applied setting considered.
