Position Description:

The Department of Engineering Technology and Industrial Distribution, College of Engineering at Texas A&M University invites applications for 1 part-time or full-time (Non-Tenure) position at the visiting assistant professor, visiting associate professor, visiting professor, (visiting) lecturer, (visiting) senior lecturer, (visiting) principal lecturer, (visiting) instructional assistant professor, (visiting) instructional associate professor, (visiting) instructional professor, (visiting) associate professor of practice, and (visiting) professor of practice level with the title and rank depending on background, qualifications, and experience with a 4.5-month or 9-month academic appointment, and the possibility of an additional summer appointment contingent upon need and availability of funds, beginning in spring, summer, or fall 2027. Successful applicants will be required to teach; advise and mentor students; develop an independent, externally funded research program (if applicable); participate in all aspects of the department's activities; and serve the profession.

Department Info:

The Department of Engineering Technology and Industrial Distribution is unique among the many departments within the College of Engineering, due to its strong focus on applied research and undergraduate education. The Engineering Technology and Industrial Distribution Department blends engineering and business knowledge, methods, and research. This department consists of four distinct undergraduate programs and three graduate programs - two distance education and one resident graduate program. Minors in Embedded Systems Integration, Technical Sales, and Information Technology Services Management are also available. As the largest in student enrollment (~2600 undergraduate and over 230 graduate students) in the college, the department has 116 faculty members, including 40 tenured/tenure-track and 76 full and part-time academic professional track faculty members to support academic programs in electronic systems engineering technology, multidisciplinary engineering technology, manufacturing and mechanical engineering technology, information technology service management, and industrial distribution. Department research expenditures exceed $12 million annually supporting areas such as embedded systems, communications, advanced manufacturing, intelligent product design and development, information technology management, human-computer interaction, robotics and automation, sales management, distribution operations and supply chain management (led by the Thomas and Joan Read Center for Distribution Research and Education), engineering education and workforce development. In addition to the programs on the College Station campus, the department also has remote programs on branch campus sites.

Qualifications

Applicants must have expertise related to engineering technology and should be capable of teaching courses in one or more of the following areas: mechatronics, electronic systems engineering technology, and manufacturing and mechanical engineering technology. Preference will be given to candidates with recent and relevant experience in applied research and technology development in robotics, mechatronics, mechanical system design, programmable logic controllers (PLCs), dynamics, intelligent thermal-fluid systems, etc. Strong written and verbal communication skills are required. Experience working in or with industry or government entities like national labs is preferred.

For appointments at the Visiting Assistant Professor, Visiting Associate Professor, and Visiting Professor level,

  • Doctoral degree in a closely related engineering or science discipline in the field in which the faculty member will teach

For appointments at the (Visiting) Lecturer, (Visiting) Senior Lecturer, (Visiting) Principal Lecturer, (Visiting) Instructional Assistant Professor, (Visiting) Instructional Associate Professor, or (Visiting) Instructional Professor level,

Required Qualifications

  • Doctoral degree in a closely related engineering or science discipline in the field in which the faculty member will teach or

  • Master’s degree in a closely related engineering or science discipline in the field in which the faculty member will teach and significant teaching experience at the college level in the field or in a related field or

  • An extraordinary record of accomplishment in an applied setting

Preferred Qualifications

  • A doctoral degree

  • Significant teaching experience at the college level in the field or a related field

  • An extraordinary record of accomplishment in an applied setting

  • Relevant hands-on experience aligned with mechatronics and robotics engineering – these include, but are not limited to, robotics and automation, mechanical engineering, and control engineering

For appointments at the (Visiting) Associate Professor of the Practice or (Visiting) Professor of the Practice level

Required Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in a closely related engineering or science discipline in the field in which the faculty member will teach and significant teaching experience at the college level in the field or in a related field or

  • An extraordinary record of accomplishment in an applied setting

  • Minimum 15 years of experience in industry

Preferred Qualifications

  • 15 years of experience as a practicing engineer

  • A doctoral degree

  • Relevant hands-on experience aligned with mechatronics and robotics engineering – these include, but are not limited to, robotics and automation, mechanical engineering, and control engineering
