Full job description

Healthcare never sleeps, and neither does the critical work of ensuring patients have timely access to medications. This overnight Pharmacy Technician opportunity offers experienced pharmacy professionals the chance to make a meaningful impact while working with a highly collaborative team that supports patients across the UVA Health system.

As a Pharmacy Technician 2, you will contribute to a fast-paced outpatient pharmacy environment that serves ambulatory patients, discharged patients, clinic patients, and hospital staff 24 hours a day. This role is ideal for experienced technicians who enjoy autonomy, thrive in dynamic environments, and want to expand their skills within a leading academic health system.

The Role

Working as part of the overnight pharmacy operations team, you will help ensure safe, efficient, and accurate medication distribution during critical overnight hours. Because overnight staffing is leaner than daytime operations, this position provides a unique opportunity to develop broad pharmacy expertise while operating with a high degree of independence and professional responsibility.

In this role, you will:

  • Fill prescriptions for outpatient and clinic patients.

  • Support prescription fulfillment and pharmacy workflow operations.

  • Assist patients and customers at pharmacy service windows.

  • Answer phone inquiries and support pharmacy communication needs.

  • Maintain medication inventory and stocking activities.

  • Collaborate closely with pharmacists and fellow pharmacy technicians.

  • Cross-train across multiple pharmacy workflows and operational functions.

  • Troubleshoot routine issues and help maintain uninterrupted overnight operations.

  • Adapt priorities based on patient needs and pharmacy volume.

Success in this position requires the ability to work independently while remaining highly collaborative with pharmacists and fellow technicians. The overnight team supports a busy pharmacy operation where strong communication, flexibility, situational awareness, and attention to detail are essential. Experienced technicians will have the opportunity to practice at a high level while developing an extensive understanding of outpatient pharmacy operations.
