Full job description

About 10x Genomics At 10x Genomics, accelerating our understanding of biology is more than a mission for us. It is a commitment. This is the century of biology, and the breakthroughs we make now have the potential to change the world.

We enable scientists to advance their research, allowing them to address scientific questions they did not even know they could ask. Our tools have enabled fundamental discoveries across biology including cancer, immunology, and neuroscience. Head of Internal Audit About the role and team We’re looking for an Internal Audit leader to own our SOX program and internal audit mandate at 10X Genomics. Your first priority is partnering with business process teams to produce clean internal controls, focused on the design and implementation of key management review controls, including ensuring the completeness and accuracy of data. As Finance and the business rebuild accounting workflows around AI, you will make sure those workflows are Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) compliant by design: shaping controls throughout the build process and before systems go live, setting the standard for evidence and review, and giving the Audit Committee and our external auditor confidence in the results. You’ll also lead the core internal audit mandate, working with the Audit Committee, CFO, and leaders across the company to test internal controls, drive SOX compliance, and embed risk management throughout 10x Genomics. This role will be critical in helping us redefine the accounting and finance functions in a modern age, strengthen governance, improve business processes, and ensure operational and financial integrity across a fast-growing global company. You treat audit as a lever for moving faster, not a checkpoint at the end. What you will be doing

  • Set the audit strategy and plan: Own the internal audit charter, the annual risk assessment, and a risk-based audit plan across financial, operational, technology, and compliance risk. Report quarterly to the Audit Committee on findings, remediation, and emerging risks.

  • Run a SOX program built for automation: Own the SOX 404 lifecycle from scoping through remediation. Move from sample testing to full-population coverage and continuous monitoring, and partner with our external auditor to maximize reliance.

  • Assure automated controls: Build the methodology to audit AI-enabled workflows, from change management and access to evidence and audit trails, and the IT general controls (ITGCs) around Oracle, RevPro, Snowflake, and our AI tooling.

  • Advise the business, independently: Partner early with Finance, IT, Legal, and Operations on new systems, process redesign, and acquisitions, so controls are embedded rather than retrofitted. Deliver operational audits that improve cost, cycle time, and risk.

  • Build an AI-first audit function: Build a lean team and co-source model, with audit tests and analytics maintained in GitHub and documented for our team and external auditor. Measure the impact in coverage gained and hours recovered.

To be successful you will need

  • Education and experience: Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; 10+ years in internal audit, external audit, or risk advisory, including Big 4 and 3+ years leading audit or SOX functions at a public company with experience reporting to the audit committee. Certified Public Accountant (CPA), Certified Internal Auditor (CIA), or Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA) required.

  • Technical depth: Expert in SOX 404, COSO, PCAOB, and SEC requirements, with working knowledge of the highest-risk US GAAP areas for a product company: revenue recognition, inventory, and equity compensation.

  • AI and technology fluency: Reflexively AI-first, with a track record of bringing automation and analytics into a SOX program and the hands-on ability to build with AI tools (Claude Code or similar). Strong grasp of ITGCs, ERP and cloud environments, and AI governance.

  • High agency and builder mindset: Extreme bias for action and comfort with ambiguity. You think like a builder, not just an auditor: you question requirements, cut low-value testing, and simplify before you automate.

  • Judgment and executive presence: Independent judgment and the presence to deliver hard messages to the Audit Committee and executives. You can explain a control to an engineer and an automated workflow to an Audit Committee member.
