Full job description

Senior Software Engineer, IT Digital Employee Experience

San Francisco, California

GAQ427R232

At Databricks, we are on a mission to help data teams solve the world's toughest problems. The IT Digital Employee Experience team builds the internal tools, platforms, and data systems that power how every Brickser works. From procurement applications and SaaS inventory systems to mobile apps, AI-powered tools, and data pipelines that serve IT.

As a Senior Software Engineer on this team, you will own projects end-to-end and be the team lead of software engineers. You will own architecture, design, implementation, deployment, and stakeholder management. You'll build production web and mobile applications on the Databricks Platform, design data pipelines that ingest from dozens of SaaS systems, and ship AI-powered integrations (MCP servers, LLM features) that reduce friction across the entire company. This is a high-autonomy, high-impact role where you operate with a startup mentality inside a scaled organization.

The impact you will have

  • Design, build, and maintain production full-stack applications (web and mobile) used company-wide. Such as, but not limited to, procurement platforms, employee experience apps, SaaS management tools, and mobile apps for leadership.

  • Build and own data pipelines that ingest, transform, and serve data from SaaS systems into Databricks, ensuring data quality and pipeline reliability.

  • Architect and implement authentication and authorization flows using Okta, OAuth, and service principals.

  • Build and deploy MCPs that connect internal tools to AI assistants, and contribute to AI-powered features, including LLM-based classification, data enrichment, and prompt-based guardrails.

  • Design and manage CI/CD pipelines, Infrastructure as Code, and deployment automation using GitHub, HashiCorp Vault, and Databricks tooling.

  • Improve and enforce SWE standards for the team: PR review processes, testing frameworks, and environment management (dev/staging/prod).

  • Work directly with stakeholders across Security, Legal, HR, Finance, and Engineering to gather requirements, navigate trade-offs, and deliver solutions.

  • Author design documents, PRDs, and architecture proposals for new systems and features.

  • Mentor contractors and junior engineers. Delegate work, break down roadmap items, and drive project planning with minimal management oversight.

  • Drive roadmap planning for your domain by identifying high-impact work and autonomously sequencing it.

What we look for

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.

  • 5+ years of production software development experience, with demonstrated full-stack proficiency (backend, frontend, and data).

  • Strong experience with Python as a primary language, with production experience building full-stack applications.

  • Experience designing and deploying applications on cloud platforms (AWS and/or Azure).

  • Hands-on experience with data engineering — building ETL/ELT pipelines, working with structured and semi-structured data.

  • Familiarity with CI/CD, IaC, and modern DevOps practices (GitHub Actions, Terraform, Docker).

  • Experience with SaaS platforms or service-oriented architectures.

  • Experience with security and systems that handle sensitive data: identity management, access control, RBAC/RLS patterns.

  • Strong communication skills. You can write a clear design doc, present to cross-functional stakeholders, and navigate technical trade-offs with non-technical audiences.

  • Experience with AI/ML tooling, LLM integrations, prompt engineering, evals, and MCP servers.

  • Experience mentoring other engineers.

Bonus points

  • Experience with the Databricks platform (Unity Catalog, Delta Lake, Databricks Apps, Workflows).

  • Strong SQL proficiency.

  • Familiarity with identity and access management systems (Okta, Opal, Google Workspace).

  • Experience building mobile applications (iOS/Android).

  • Experience with SaaS management, procurement systems, or IT operations tooling.

  • Background in data governance, schema design, access control, and data quality monitoring.

  • Experience working with distributed teams across time zones.
