Full job description
Overview Millions of developers build with Visual Studio Code and GitHub every day. These are the tools they love, and the brands they identify with. In Developer Product Marketing, we take these experiences to market, and we're hiring the next generation of technical product marketing leaders to do it: builders at heart, technical storytellers by trade, and innovators who move fluidly between product shaping, business model definition, and go-to-market execution in the fastest-moving market in tech. When products ship overnight and trends fade just as fast, we need marketers who see through the noise and build narratives that last.
For this role, we're looking for a technical leader who is curious by nature, equally at home with product leaders and field sellers, and able to craft one narrative across GitHub and Microsoft. You are a technical storyteller at heart. You're hands-on with developer products, have exceptional customer instincts, and love turning what a product does into a narrative that lasts.
-
A proven track record of bringing developer or technical products to market with narratives that outlast the launch.
-
Agility on the business model: a deep understanding of how developer products are priced, packaged, and sold, and the instinct to evolve the model ahead of the competition.
-
Strong business acumen and the judgment to prioritize go-to-market channels (community, product-led growth, field, partners, events) based on the unique needs of each narrative.
-
Passion for AI and agentic developer tools, with hands-on experience using these technologies in your daily workflow.
-
GitHub + Microsoft: A curious, collaborative leader who works comfortably with product leaders and field sellers to craft one narrative across GitHub and Microsoft.
Responsibilities
-
Develop and execute end-to-end go-to-market strategies for GitHub and Microsoft developer products, partnering with product, engineering, integrated marketing, business planning, and field teams.
-
Partner closely with product and engineering leaders to shape product direction, influence feature prioritization, and make sure the roadmap, business model, and narrative move together.
-
Define and communicate compelling value propositions that show how GitHub and Microsoft help developers and organizations build faster and more securely as AI reshapes how software gets made.
-
Turn customer insights, competitive intelligence, field feedback, and product telemetry into positioning, messaging, and go-to-market decisions.
-
Evaluate pricing, packaging, and business model performance against the competitive landscape, and recommend changes that keep our offers ahead of the market.
-
Prioritize and activate the right mix of channels for each narrative (community, product-led growth, field, partners, and events) to drive awareness, adoption, and growth.
-
Lead go-to-market planning for key launches and moments across GitHub and Microsoft, and equip sellers and partners with the story, demos, and tools to win with customers.
Qualifications Required/minimum qualifications
- Master's Degree in in Marketing, Computer Science, Business or related field AND 3+ years experience in business OR Bachelor's Degree in Marketing, Computer Science, Business or related field AND 5+ years experience in business OR equivalent experience.
Additional or preferred qualifications
-
Master's Degree in Marketing, Computer Science, Business or related field AND 6+ years experience in business OR Bachelor's Degree in Marketing, Computer Science, Business or related field AND 8+ years experience in business OR equivalent experience.
-
Hands-on fluency with GitHub Copilot, Visual Studio Code, and other AI coding agents in your daily workflow; deep familiarity with the developer tools ecosystem, including IDEs and extensions, CI/CD, version control, and security.
-
A working understanding of how AI models are evaluated, priced, and served, including benchmarks, tokens, and tradeoffs among quality, latency, and cost.
-
Proven experience owning positioning and messaging for a developer product used across many personas, from individual developers to enterprise engineering leaders.
-
Exceptional writing and technical storytelling skills across keynotes, blogs, demos, pitch decks, and battlecards.
-
Previous experience as a software engineer, developer advocate, or sales engineer.
-
Experience with pricing, packaging, or usage-based business models for software or cloud products.
-
Experience bringing a product from preview to general availability.
