About the Role
Robert Half is seeking a detail-oriented Payroll Specialist for a contract opportunity with a growing IT company in Shelton, Connecticut. This position is ideal for a payroll professional with experience processing multi-state payroll and ensuring compliance with payroll regulations and company policies.
The Payroll Specialist will be responsible for the accurate and timely processing of payroll while supporting employees and management with payroll-related inquiries and reporting.
Responsibilities

Process weekly, bi-weekly, or semi-monthly payroll for employees accurately and on time
-
Review and validate employee timekeeping records and payroll data
-
Maintain payroll records, earnings, deductions, garnishments, and tax information
-
Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local payroll regulations
-
Process new hires, terminations, salary changes, bonuses, and employee status updates
-
Reconcile payroll reports and investigate discrepancies
-
Assist with payroll tax filings and year-end activities, including W-2 preparation
-
Respond to employee payroll questions and resolve payroll-related issues
-
Generate payroll reports and assist with audits as needed
-
Collaborate with Human Resources and Accounting to ensure accurate employee and payroll data
Requirements
Qualifications
-
High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate's or Bachelor's degree preferred
-
2+ years of payroll processing experience
-
Knowledge of payroll laws, tax regulations, and payroll best practices
-
Proficiency with payroll software and Microsoft Excel
-
Strong attention to detail and data accuracy
-
Excellent organizational and time management skills
-
Ability to handle confidential information with discretion
-
Strong communication and customer service skills
-
Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines
Preferred Qualifications
-
Experience processing payroll in a technology, professional services, or corporate environment
-
Familiarity with multi-state payroll processing
-
Experience with ADP, Paychex, UKG, Workday, or similar payroll systems
-
Knowledge of payroll reconciliations, payroll taxes, and compliance reporting
-
CPP (Certified Payroll Professional) certification a plus
Schedule
-
Full-time, Monday through Friday
-
Standard business hours
-
Contract assignment with potential for extension based on business needs
