Dynamics Engineer III

Description

About This Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Dynamical Systems Analyst to support strategic weapon system development for our Advanced Programs team. The Dynamical Systems Analyst will be responsible for conducting kinematic and dynamic analyses to predict characteristics and validate the performance of mechanical systems. A strong background in 6 Degree-of-Freedom simulation and analysis of both rigid and flexible body dynamics is required,. Experience using industry-standard tools such as MSC Adams and Ansys products (Ansys Mechanical and Ansys Motion, for example) or in designing custom simulations is preferred. Additional responsibilities will include design of experiments and subsequent correlation of simulation results and real-world test data. The Dynamical Systems Analyst will ultimately be expected to participate as a member of product design teams by providing performance results and influencing design direction. This position requires excellent communication and writing skills.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a Dynamics Analyst, modeling and characterizing the motion of both rigid and flexible bodies.

  • Utilize a combination of commercial of the shelf (COTS) tools (MSC Adams, ANSYS Mechanical, Ansys Motion, MATLAB) and Textron- developed software tools to characteristics described above though 6 Degree-of-Freedom simulation.

  • Recommend design changes to improve system dynamics.

  • Assist test team in defining dynamic testing methods, including specification of test article design, sensor placement, and sensor performance specification.

  • Correlate analysis results with test data to verify and validate models.

  • Summarize results and design application techniques during the course of the above activities via presentations and design analysis reports.

  • Up to 5-10% of travel may be required.

Qualifications

  • Education Requirements: BS in Mechanical Engineering or Higher degree

  • Mechanical Engineer, minimum of 5 years of experience.

  • Candidate will be member of a team responsible for the development, design, and integration of mechanical systems primarily for military and aerospace applications.

  • Analytical skills to validate mechanical dynamic design solutions and proficiency with MSC Adams Dynamic Modeling or other industry standard 6DOF modeling tools required. MSC Nastran normal modes and forced vibration analysis a plus.

  • Experience bounding problems and CAE solutions using closed form and approximate numerical methods for kinematics and vibration response preferred.

  • Experience creating rigid body dynamic, shock, and vibration test plans for small components and large structures to verify analytic approaches.

  • Demonstrated analysis skills in random vibration, shock response spectrum analyses, and spectra generation from dynamic testing desired.

  • Working knowledge of NX 1946 CAD desired.

  • Proficiency in writing skills and with aptitude for both technical and proposal styles.

  • Strong verbal communication skills are important.

  • Active Secret clearance required; eligibility for SAP clearance is required. Top Secret clearance preferred.
