Its central purpose is to use computation, artificial intelligence, statistics, and biomedical data to accelerate discoveries that can improve diagnosis, prevention, treatment, and patient outcomes.
The department was established as AI and computational science were becoming central drivers of biomedical research. In its first five years, it grew to approximately 20 primary faculty members, including 14 recruited faculty, and developed collaborations across Cedars-Sinai’s clinical and research programs.
Faculty research spans a broad range of computational and translational disciplines, including:
-
Artificial intelligence and machine learning for healthcare
-
Biomedical informatics and clinical data science
-
Computational genomics and human genetics
-
Multi-omics data integration
-
Electronic health record analysis and clinical prediction
-
Natural language processing and knowledge discovery
-
Digital pathology and medical imaging
-
Biostatistics and statistical modeling
-
