Director of Operations

Job Description

Overview: A financial organization is seeking a Director of Operations that will sit hybrid onsite in Columbis Ohio for a full time role. The Director of Banking Operations will lead the bank's operational strategy, modernization efforts, and day-to-day oversight of critical banking functions. This leader will be responsible for driving operational excellence across loan operations, deposit operations, information security, and banking technology while helping position the bank for future growth, automation, and digital transformation. This is a highly visible leadership role focused on building the "bank of the future," not simply maintaining existing processes.

Day-to-Day Responsibilities

• Meet with Loan Ops and Deposit Ops leaders to review performance and priorities.
• Resolve escalated operational issues.
• Review workflow, productivity, and service metrics.
• Partner with Information Security and Compliance leaders.
• Assess technology, vendor, and process improvement opportunities.
• Lead operational and strategic planning discussions.
• Participate in executive-level decision making.
• Coach managers and develop team capabilities.
• Evaluate opportunities for automation, AI, and process modernization.

Key Responsibilities Operational Leadership

• Lead and develop Deposit Operations, Loan Operations, and Information Security functions.

• Provide leadership through managers rather than performing day-to-day processing work.

• Partner closely with Compliance, Lending, Retail Banking, and Executive Leadership.

• Build scalable operational processes to support continued bank growth. Technology & Innovation

• Evaluate and implement modern banking technologies and fintech solutions.

• Assist in future core banking platform evaluations and potential conversions.

• Identify opportunities to leverage automation, AI, and digital banking tools.

• Ensure technology investments deliver business value while managing risk. Process Improvement

• Analyze existing workflows and identify operational efficiencies.

• Challenge legacy processes and help modernize the bank's operating model.

• Improve customer experience through streamlined operations.

• Optimize staffing and responsibilities as technology evolves. Risk & Information Security

• Oversee operational risk and support information security initiatives.

• Evaluate vendors, fintech partners, and technology providers.

• Ensure operational systems support regulatory and compliance requirements.

• Balance innovation with sound business judgment and risk management. People Leadership

• Lead a team consisting of Loan Operations, Deposit Operations, and Information Security leadership.

• Support succession planning as experienced employees approach retirement.

• Develop a culture of accountability, adaptability, and continuous improvement.

• Hire, coach, and mentor future operational leaders.

Skills and Requirements

• 3-5+ years managing people and operational teams.
• 7+ years of banking Loan Operations, Deposit Operations, or broader Banking Operations.
• Strong understanding of regulated banking environments.
• Experience implementing or improving operational systems - Ability to evaluate fintech, automation, and emerging technologies.
• Experience leading a full Banking Operations department.
• Core banking system conversion experience.
• Experience with LaserPro or similar loan-documentation tools.
• Information Security leadership experience.
• AI, automation, workflow, or digital transformation experience.
• Experience supporting rapid loan growth and operational scaling.
