Full job description

Description

AWS Infrastructure Services owns the design, planning, delivery, and operation of all AWS global infrastructure. In other words, we’re the people who keep the cloud running. We support all AWS data centers and all of the servers, storage, networking, power, and cooling equipment that ensure our customers have continual access to the innovation they rely on. We work on the most challenging problems, with thousands of variables impacting the supply chain — and we’re looking for talented people who want to help.

The Power & Cooling (PAC) team is seeking a results-oriented individual with deep inventory and logistics expertise to own the storage and inventory governance that makes on-time commissioning possible for Data Center Power & Cooling equipment. Our Inventory & Logistics Leaders are high-energy self-starters who bring a specialized skill set — inventory control, warehouse governance, and logistics execution — that raises the bar for how AWS manages a large, fast-growing long-lead-equipment inventory.

As a member of the Power and Cooling Post-Delivery organization, this is an individual-contributor role that owns the upstream governance of storage and inventory for Long Lead Equipment (LLE) — not the physical warehousing itself, but everything that makes it work. You will hold third-party storage locations accountable for receiving standards and equipment condition, drive accurate inventory tracking and reconciliation, and maintain full visibility into what is on hand and where, across roughly 15 storage vendors and more than 30 locations. You own the capability that lets the organization trust what it holds — the foundation every commissioning enabler depends on. You report to the Leader of Post-Delivery & Commissioning.

You’ll join a diverse team of software, hardware, and network engineers, supply chain specialists, security experts, operations managers, and other vital roles. You’ll collaborate with people across AWS to help us deliver the highest standards for safety and security while providing seemingly infinite capacity at the lowest possible cost for our customers. And you’ll experience an inclusive culture that welcomes bold ideas and empowers you to own projects through completion.

Key job responsibilities

  • The Inventory & Logistics Leader is an individual contributor who owns storage and inventory governance for long-lead equipment (LLE), making certain the organization knows — with confidence — what it holds, in what condition, and where.

  • Storage Governance — Hold third-party storage locations accountable for receiving-inspection standards and for equipment condition while in storage; establish the receiving, condition, and reconciliation standards that do not exist today, so crates are no longer received without clear instructions or left unopened and unverified.

  • Inventory Accuracy and Visibility — Drive active and accurate inventory tracking, including cycle counts, and maintain full on-hand visibility on demand. Resolve the conditions behind unvalued and unreconciled inventory — past-due material still carried in storage and item-part-number-to-purchase-order mismatches — so the portfolio can be fully valued and trusted.

  • Logistics Execution — Own coordination with Amazon Cloud Logistics (ACL) for the movement of equipment into, between, and out of storage, and issue advance shipping notices to storage locations ahead of each site’s Need By Date (NBD). Make this a governed responsibility with one accountable owner rather than a side task spread across many people.

  • Capacity Forecasting — Forecast storage capacity with the third party against where the build is heading, sizing the storage footprint for both growth and decline rather than being surprised by either.

  • Enabling Redundancy and Spare Parts — Provide the inventory confidence that makes equipment redundancy real — swapping equipment between sites to cover a shortfall — and absorb the steady-state tracking and availability of the Critical Spare Parts program once it moves from stand-up into operation.

  • Success in this role is measured by inventory accuracy, the share of the portfolio under governed and verified visibility, and the elimination of the storage surprises that today surface at commissioning — directly enabling on-time PFHO

A day in the life

  • Communicate ideas concisely to a wide variety of stakeholders, for purposes ranging from informative to securing approvals from executives.

  • Embody a true pioneering spirit, willing to “get your hands dirty” in a start-up environment while simultaneously developing processes, automation, and delivering results.

  • Clearly define data requirements and metrics, working with teams to implement the entire data flow from capture to presentation and management.

  • Apply high attention to detail and a proven ability to manage multiple, competing priorities simultaneously.

  • Continuously improve inventory and logistics processes, building the standards and automation that make governance repeatable as the build scales.
