Full job description

Description We are looking for an experienced Sr. Accountant to join a banking organization in Bloomington, Minnesota on a Contract basis. This position is fully onsite and will play a key role in maintaining accurate financial records, supporting the month-end close process, and preparing reporting for leadership. The ideal candidate brings strong accounting fundamentals, confidence with reconciliations and journal entries, and the ability to contribute to budgeting and forecasting activities as business needs shift.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead core month-end close activities by preparing and posting journal entries, reviewing debits and credits, and helping ensure timely completion of the close cycle.

  • Record accruals and maintain supporting schedules in spreadsheets to provide accurate documentation for monthly accounting activity.

  • Perform bank and general ledger reconciliations across a high volume of accounts, consolidating related balances where appropriate and resolving discrepancies promptly.

  • Prepare financial statements and generate recurring and ad hoc reports needed to close the books and support internal financial review.

  • Use Excel functions such as XLOOKUP, VLOOKUP, and pivot tables to organize data, validate balances, and improve reporting efficiency.

  • Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and margin-related analysis during slower close periods, including work within ProfitStar when needed.

  • Work within banking and accounting platforms, including FiServ and ProLog when applicable, to complete reporting, reconciliations, and close-related tasks.

  • Identify opportunities to streamline manual accounting work and recommend process improvements or automation where practical within daily responsibilities. Requirements • 5+ years of accounting experience, including substantial involvement in month-end close activities.

  • Strong understanding of general ledger accounting, journal entries, accruals, and account reconciliation principles.

  • Experience completing bank reconciliations and managing multiple balance sheet reconciliations in a structured environment.

  • Background in financial services, banking operations, or the banking industry is strongly preferred.

  • Proficiency in Excel, including lookups and pivot tables, with the ability to build and maintain spreadsheet support.

  • Experience preparing financial statements and running reports in support of accounting close and management review.

  • Familiarity with FiServ, ProLog, ProfitStar, or similar banking and financial reporting systems is preferred.

  • Ability to work fully onsite in Bloomington, Minnesota and adapt to a fast-paced contract assignment.
